Review: Updated: Nitpicking - I’m a mature gamer who tends to go for shorter single player games like Uncharted. However, the glowing reviews persuaded me to purchase KCD2 for the PS5. I’m four hours in and here’s my thoughts: The Good: Great graphics; fantastic soundtrack; interesting story and inventive sidequests; superb voice acting and dialogue; a wealth of systems to customise your character and gear; huge map to explore; The Bad: Some clunkiness in the tutorials and early game missions that leave you scratching your head and looking for youtube guides; some bugs in video/ audio that need patching; multiple text heavy menus that aren’t beginner friendly. The Ugly: Restrictive save system that dissuades experimentation and playing the game in short bursts; lockpicking minigame that is highly frustrating on DualSense controller. Overall: I love this game 99% of the time (the other time is spent lockpicking). The immersion is second to none: Last night I spent an hour walking the countryside and wore out my boots. I repaired them with my cobblers kit then discovered a mill. I earnt some money loading flour onto a cart and then had a chat with a guy who taught me how to pick pocket. Tonight I intend to collect some dark clothes from the bathhouse to use in a midnight raid to steal an important document. After that I’m going to go and ask some fishermen if they’ve seen my dog… This is the most fun I’ve had in a videogame in a long time… and I’ve not even killed anyone (yet)! 70 Hour UPDATE: I’ve now found both my horse and my dog and learnt alchemy, blacksmithing, gambling and (to a lesser extent) fighting. What a game! Many of my nitpicks - technical glitches and lockpicking - have been patched and I have been playing this game at every opportunity. I’m really taking my time and haven’t even made it to the wedding (a main plot point) yet. I’ve grown accustomed to the save system, which I think is still unnecessarily restrictive but easily mitigated by making up a stock of Saviour Schnapps. Still not a perfect game, but extremely immersive and enjoyable.
Review: Masterpiece with rough edges - If you love game of thrones storytelling in a medieval setting. This game is for you. The way , the story unravels with twists at every corner. The immersion is insane , but difficulty is also insane at the same time. The combat is gameplay is tricky, people have to remember when buying this. Its not your typical generic gameplay experience from a normal triple A. You don't learn just learn easy to hard lockpick for example through a perk and then you can do it. This is a simulator, so trial and error and practice.. like the real world. Patiennce is a very key word for this game. The map is huge and so much to do, a true RPG. I only have a couple of complaints... Most of the levels I've done are amazing , but there are couple which are the stealth missions. From whom the bell rings and the storm quest. These two quests obviously not been play tested properly. There's too many harsh factors in which game almost punishes you too much which limits the experience. I like this it reminds of old gaming days with those silly hard PS1 or PS2 games. Kc2 gets too carried away with itself limiting the potential for people to actual enjoy what their doing. Storm quest was by far the worse of the two. Path tracing of the NPCs, seems bugged or over the top with npc behavior. You have space to manoerve in this huge space. You can barely get through without being seen, you need luck 🤞. There's only one small slither of an area which I could get through and it still wasn't easy. People can spend hours on this bit which is meant to take 10-15 mins at most. This wasn't smart quest designing at all. Be careful not to punish your players too much. Also, explaining lock picking is terrible in the game. Especially for consoles. All they had to say was use your thumb and finger to wiggle the right analog stick. So if your going to play this, use YouTube it will save your time a lot.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A true Hard-core RPG. Not easy, but rewarding
*by A***S on 9 February 2025*

What can I say. The combat is the only sticking point I had until I realised that like other aspects of this game, you get out what you put in. Train, smith, craft, brew potions and explore a massive open world set in 15th Century Bohemia. Live a life medieval and be the hero or villain you choose to be. If you love massive worlds full of details, sprawling hills, wonderful vistas and interesting characters, you'll love this game. I've played 65 hours and could easily spend 65 more just wondering the fields, hunting, and living off the land with my horse and dog. The music score is suitably grand and of a classical feel, and fits the games movie luke ascetic. The in game world music is a period accurate folk like experience of lute and flute ditties. NPCs react mostly in very authentic ways and remember your actions should you choose to rob or rescue. Punishments will be dealt out or rewards given, depending in the choices you make. This is not 100 million dollar plus budget game, and therefore spme concessions have been made, primarily with the recycling of several of the same NPC faces and voices actor scattered around the world. Whilst not completely immersion breaking, its a reminder of how games were 20 years ago when they were of a much smaller budget in general. Its obvious this game was made by a team of developers who love games, and poured their dedication into this gem of a game. This is EASILY a GOTY contender! Please ignore the silly reviews moaning about the odd graphical glitch which isn't a permanent issue and often impossible to recreate in-game. These are uncommon and very infrequent. I've had 2 small glitches over 65 hours of gameplay. If you love deeply immersive, challenging and rewarding rpgs, consider trying Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
