Coil does not become red. In 2k mode a 10x10 room gets warm in 15minutes. Then you can put it in 1k mode to maintain the heat. Fan makes noise, but not excessive. Only con is that the legs of the heater do not have any rubber buffer, which is why it has a tendency to slip on floor and make vibration noise if floor is uneven.
