I am looking for seed to plant.** A: Hello, Thanks for your interest in our walnuts! NO! These walnuts have never been chemically treated, heated or frozen. We use these seeds for planting ourselves. We typically create a small hole and drop 3 seeds in each hole. Typically 1 of the three will germinate and create a sapling. Also, these are stored in a large pole barn, which is out of the weather. However, we had a few days in Missouri in January where it was -5 degrees and the pole barn could of had a slight frost in it during those cold days. We cannot guarantee that each seed will germinate. We have personally used seeds that have subjected to below freezing temperatures for extended periods and they have germinated with no problems. Black Walnuts are tough and can handle a lot, but the germination process is tricky and conditions have to be ideal for the black walnut to germinate.
