I had been looking for a duffle that has side pockets in addition to the big pocket. They are perfect for separating my shoes and toiletries from my clothes. In the bigger side pocket I have been able to fit a pair of hiking boots (size 7.5w/5.5mens) and chacos, if you have feet on the larger side you could probably fit one pair of boots or two pairs of regular shoes. In the smaller side pocket I can fit a mid sized toiletry bag. I even took this bag to europe and used a two bag toiletry system. One 311 compatible bag, and one small dry toiletry bag. It worked great! My only con is that the hand straps are a little too short to use as a shoulder strap, and as a backpack it’s not very comfortable.
