Review: Good probe - The length of the probe is much longer than the one bought originally with the thermometer, so this is a major improvement. Perfectly accurate, and designed for the higher temperature of over 1000 deg C. Review: very slow - so i took a double neck flask. i neck remain open with one of the two thermocouple half immersed in boiling water. second one in a 10cm thermometer adapter (then the thermocouple is isolated from the water by a layer of borocilicate). it took more than 15mn before the thermo1 reaches ultimately 99ΒΊ (then i got enough waiting). thermo2 remained at 40!!!! probably because more than 1 half of the rod was not exposed to the heat. measurements made with an AMPROBE TMD-56. btw with the twp coupler provided with the device (no metal rod, just thread) it was pretty instantaneous... taking my own temperature in my mouth with the rod was rather quick though and seemed accurate. The oven will be 230 to 320c. Ie will the lead and end of probe melt?** A: Hello Glyn. I can't fully visualise your application. Nevertheless, I believe that neither the black probe handle nor the yellow cable would withstand 320C for very long. This is a K-type thermocouple. Essentially, it converts temperature to a voltage. This item, alone, will not tell you the temperature of your oven. It needs to be plugged into a "box of tricks" that converts the voltage back to an indicated temperature. Have a look at this on Amazon: TM-902C Temperature Meter Type K LCD Digital Thermometer Thermocouple Sensor 1300. No meltable plastic on the thermocouple lead AND you get a temperature readout. Not bad for less than a tenner. Just don't expect National Physical Laboratory accuracy!
