Review: OM-Gosh!!! This little guy is GREAT! - Gosh darn it, I knew I should have ordered the larger Dash 12 egg cooker! Got it quickly and well packaged with other items. As soon as I did get it I wanted to try it out. I started with 6 eggs for hard boil. I knew it said it had an alarm but to be safe I also set my kitchen timer for the 16 minutes it called for. Left it in the kitchen, about 10 minutes later I heard this darn awful noise coming from the kitchen. I looked at my husband, he looked at me, and I asked what the heck is this? Then I figured it must be the egg cooker. Sure enough that was the noise. I unplugged it so it would stop and just knew the eggs couldn't be done so I placed one in an egg cup and started breaking the shell. Much to my surprise the egg was cooked and a perfect hard boil! These six eggs were the easiest hard boiled eggs I've ever shelled, it just slipped right off after cracking. I got the yellow and he is very cute sitting on my counter. My recommendation to others is to not be cheap like me and go ahead and buy the larger cooker. You won't be disappointed and will probably be cooking eggs a lot more. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Update: I call this little guy my "squawking buddy" I know some will really dislike the alarm sound, but being hard of hearing, I appreciate it. I don't have to be in the kitchen to hear him. I finally found the right way to hard boil eggs, but it was a real hassle with boiling the water and then taking off the shells. I'm telling you honestly the peeling of the eggs with this guy is almost a pleasure! I'm able to get under the film that is between the shell and egg and surprise, surprise, shells are off. I hate LONG reviews, but I want to tell you what I do after they are done. I have to take a wadded paper towel to remove the lid (very hot), I then put the eggs and holder in a bowl of water with ice cubes. I take out the holder leaving the eggs in the water. I then take out all the eggs and crack on the counter on the larger end of the egg. The eggs are still hot and I then peel. Even after the ice water bath the eggs will be hot enough to eat (my husband loves warm hard boiled eggs with a salt shaker in hand). You HAVE to get this guy. I'm done with my babbling. The End 2nd Update: I bought one for my mother-in-law because I think this little machine (my squawking buddie) is something EVERY ONE should have
Review: My insights and tips. I love it! - It does what it's supposed to do. What you need to know is, there are lots of variables involved in getting the boiled egg you like. It's a matter of trial and error until you figure it out. -- size of egg matters; the bigger the egg, the more water & time it's going to need (more than it says) -- temperature of egg matters; whether it's lukewarm from the hen-house or just out of a cold fridge -- your personal take on what "soft," "medium," and "hard" is supposed to be like I started off with an Extra Large "Country Hen" brand egg (just one egg) and filled the little cup to exactly the "medium" mark. I did not puncture the egg. It steamed for around 4 minutes and the music came on. I turned off the music and let it sit in the unit another 30 seconds, then transferred it to a bowl of cold water for one minute, then started peeling it. I got most of the peel off one-third of the egg and was having trouble getting the peel off. Then I realized the egg was really, really squishy and not cooked. So, I deposited the partly peeled egg back in the unit and filled the cup to the "soft" setting this time. At the end of 2 minutes the music went off and I could see that the white of the egg looked a little firmer, so I removed the egg (with a potholder) and tried peeling it again; it was still kind of squishy. I repeated this last process one more time, filling the cup to "soft" and then was able to peel the egg; still a little difficult to peel but I was finally able to slide a spoon under the egg's membrane and got it loose. The photo is what it looked like after I placed the egg on toast and chopped it up. All I can say is it's an egg, and it came out the way I intended it, but I need to figure out the water measurement better next time so I didn't have to go through all that rigamarole. I provide this description of what I did for others who find that their egg is not quite cooked enough; you can stick it back in the unit and cook it some more! It works. As for the unit itself, there are a lot of things I really like about it: -- The overall shape is pleasantly round, and not bulbous or squarish like some of them. It's more organic looking with roundy legs and not stick-like legs. -- The cord is white, not black like some other brands, and blends in better with my kitchen counter. It's not super long, but it's long enough. -- I got the yellow one and I'm really pleased with the color; it's the same soft color as a cooked egg yolk, and not glaringly yellow. -- The top part of the unit can be secured onto the bottom part by turning the top so that it "locks" with the bottom part; the instructions say not to do that, though, while it's cooking. But this makes it easier to lift the unit together with its top and parts inside it, instead of having separate pieces that can fall off. Some of the other brands don't have this feature. -- The unit only cooks 6 eggs at a time, not 7 like most, but that's fine with me because I only need to cook eggs for one or two people. -- The fact that it only does 6 eggs means that the center of the egg holder is free for a little spindle that can be placed there before cooking so you can lift the entire egg tray up and move it to cold water. Other brands don't have that. -- The alarm is pleasantly musical and not too loud, unlike some other brands with a loud buzzer that knocks you off your feet. Cons: -- The measuring cup is not marked with ink, just raised indicators same color as the clear plastic. You have to hold it up to the light to see how much you're putting in there. I may order a better measuring cup for teaspoons, tablespoons, and ounces. Anyhow, I think I've gotten the best egg cooker available. The price is right, the unit is cute, it works, even if you flub up and have to keep putting the egg back in there, even partially peeled, it will still cook you an egg. And mine came out just fine even with all that fuss. I plan on getting better at it. I will report back if I come up with more tips. Update after 5 uses: I decided to punch a hole in the end of the egg, and this does seem to make it just a little easier to peel. I'm using Extra Large eggs, and it definitely takes a lot more water (= longer time). I've filled the cup to the "Hard" level, as well as a little above that, and the egg comes out more like soft/medium-boiled (but not runny). I don't leave it in the machine; I take it right out and lower it into a bowl of water with ice cubes for a minute. Every morning I can look forward to an egg now, without the hassle of getting out pots and pans and trying to guess how long the egg is going to take or winding up with a harder or softer egg.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are the eggs easy to peel once cooked?**
A: I have never had luck peeling hard boil eggs til this. I put ice cubes and water in a bowl. I let the eggs sit in the steamer for an extra minute or two after timer. Transfer to ice bath. Let ice melt. Tap on end with hole (air pocket forms on that end). Peel under running water. REALLY easy!!

**Q: I lost my little egg piercer. Can anyone tell me the measurements of the different levels for water?**
A: Dash Cooker we will still give you a short-detailed water measure for Dash egg Cooker.
Dash Egg Cooker How Much
Water For Hard Boiled Eggs: 4.4
Tablespoons Or 60g Water For 6
Eggs
For Medium Boiled Eggs: 2.5
Tablespoons Or 35g Water For 6 Eggs
For Soft Boiled Eggs: 2
Tablespoons Or 25g Water For 6
Eggs
For Omelet Eggs: 2.5 Tablespoons
Or 35g Water
For Poached Eggs: 2.5 Tablespoons
Or 35g Water
As you already know that with the dash you can make hard, medium, or a soft-boiled egg as well as poached eggs and omelets.

**Q: can i do only 2 or 4 eggs and does it have a water amount mark for less eggs?**
A: The amount of water used is not related to the number of eggs being cooked, it is for the type of cooked egg you desire. This cooks the eggs until the water is gone. So the water determines the amount of time they cook. The water cup on mine has three markings. Soft, Medium and Hard. Soft boiled eggs being the smallest amount of water and the shortest cooking time. Hard boiled is the largest amount of water and the longest cooking time. One hard cooked egg takes just as long to cook as 6 eggs. the amount of water determines the cooking time.

**Q: are the plastic parts that come into contact with the eggs BPA free?**
A: For those who point out that you don't eat the shell, this cooker also does shell-less eggs (poached, etc) so that's not a valid response.

What is valid, though is that BPA-free is misleading--what chemical did they substitute for the BPA? It's commonly BPS, which is a close chemical analog. Search for the Scientific American article "BPA-Free Plastic Containers May Be Just as Hazardous."

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ When it screams, they're done!
*by K***N on January 29, 2019*

This little gem is wonderful! This was a bit of an impulse buy, I admit. I mean my hard-boiled eggs are fine..when I don't forget them and boil the pot dry on the stove. I didn't HAVE to have a gadget to make an omelet, I know how and have the pan to do it in. I just wanted it. It's cute. It's quick. By golly one of these days I'm going to have a poached egg that actually has some egg white around the yolk (instead of all of it being left in a pot of hot water floating around like flavorless egg-drop soup). And while I'm not going to say the shell slipped off in one piece or anything, they did peel just fine. What I WILL tell you is that now that I've had a PERFECTLY hard-boiled egg yolk, with NO gray stuff, I'm never going back to the old way of cooking them. Creamy tasting, perfectly done, yolks are my new thing! I was a little frightened by the video review that shared the 'piercing shrieks coming from the kitchen" when the eggs are done, not as frightened as my dogs, but still anticipating the worst. It wasn't that bad, the dogs barely reacted. It does seem as though they could have re-engineered it to turn off after 30 seconds, and have an auto shut-off when the water is gone - but maybe that's the next version - and maybe that one will be twice as expensive. I did 6 extra large eggs, with the recommended amount of water, left the lid on another full minute as directed for the size, and then plopped into an ice bath. You can do 7 if you take out the center 'handle'. They came out perfectly.
