They include something called a magic plate that goes between the sticky metal plate and your phone to make it easier to remove the plate if you want to. Wife has a Samsung S22 and that magic plate wouldn't stick to it. 3M Blue masking tape wouldn't stick to it either. It must have some kind of coating. The wife didn't want it stuck directly to the phone so it's held in place by the protective case. It seems to work okay. I have a different unit in my car with a metal plate and it stays in place with just the case holding it there. The car mount was easier. I cleaned up 2 areas on the dash of our 1999 Sienna. I cleaned them with a cleaning tissue for glasses, put one on the driver's left above the A/C vent and the other just below the rear window defrost button. It seems pretty strong so we'll see. I'll update here if there's a change. My phone is a Samsung S8. I added a second metal plate to mine but they slide around, so I peeled off the paper from this holder's plate and put it on the back of the phone and it stuck. I put the other one from the different mount below that one and used the 3M Blue masking tape to see if it stays in place. I put the Otterbox case back on. This seems like a good system. It is certainly designed like what I had in mind. The one in my car mounts in the A/C vent. It's good but once mounted you cannot control the vent. I had to set the vent the way that's most convenient then put the vent mount on and there it stays. With this mount it is on the plastic near the vent so it can keep the phone cool on long trips when I'm using it for navigation.
