Review: Very easy to use and reliable travel router - This travel router is very easy to use. Setup was straightforward and quick, even without much configuration. It works well right out of the box. Connection is stable, and the Wi-Fi 6 support helps maintain good speeds for multiple devices. It is compact and lightweight, which makes it perfect for travel. I used it in hotels and it handled the connection without issues. It is also useful for creating a private network when using public Wi-Fi. Overall, a very practical and reliable device. Great value if you travel often or need a simple portable network solution.
Review: Excellent as a low-cost home internet backup - I bought this as a backup internet solution for my AT&T fiber (using a Samsung phone with USB tethering) and after initial setup/testing it worked well; the day after setting up and testing it my fiber actually went down and I was able to connect easily in just minutes. I have an AT&T supplied router/modem and a TP-Link Deco mesh system with ~35 various devices connected - TV's, cell phones, various smart devices, and all were online with no issues. A couple things that may help others: * This router would NOT run from the USB-C port on my CyberPower UPS (it would blink blue/red then shut off; apparently that particular USB C charging port doesn't supply sufficient power to power the router). Once plugged into a normal USB-C power adapter 'brick' and wall outlet, it worked fine. It took me several tries and much frustration to realize that this was the reason my phone couldn't 'recognize' the router - it wasn't actually powered up. Downloading TP-Link's "Tether" app was helpful (but only after plugging the router in to an actual outlet). * Setup was somewhat finicky at first because my phone kept trying to reconnect to my main home Wi-Fi instead of the TP-Link setup network. I used the help of AI to figure that issue out; once connected and configured, though, it is simple to connect to it in an actual outage. * USB tethering with my Samsung phone is easy and works properly after setup. During an outage I simply: 1. Plug the TP Link into an outlet for power; Connect my phone to the TP router via USB-A/C 2. Turn on USB tethering on my phone 3. Disconnect my AT&T router from my Deco mesh; connect the TP-Link router's LAN port to my Deco mesh WAN port (where AT&T router was connected). Internet comes back online for the whole house in about a minute - no passwords etc needed. Because I have the mesh system, I don't have to make all the devices in the house 'recognize' another new network like you would just using a hotspot; the TP-Link router sends the internet to the Deco which 'supplies' the internet to all other devices as usual. Speeds obviously depend on cellular signal strength and tower congestion, so don’t expect fiber speeds from a phone hotspot backup, but for streaming, web browsing, smart devices, etc., it works very well. I haven't used it for traveling, but it has a very small footprint, comes with a USB and Ethernet cable, and would easily fit in any purse or travel bag. I imagine I've made this sound much more complicated than it is to set up - it's actually quite easy as long as you power the router properly and don't have a glitch with your phone trying to reconnect to your home WiFi. Other than that, it was easy. Connections are straightforward - one cable to power, one to Ethernet, one to phone - for my particular setup. Ethernet, USB-A/C cables are provided, but they're short. I purchased longer ones for convenience. For the price, this is an excellent low-cost backup internet solution without monthly fees.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: TL-WR1502X has multiple modes, which one should I choose when traveling?**
A: The TL-WR1502X features multiple modes depending on the types of internet connections available to you. Use Router mode for wired access, USB Tethering to use your phone's data or a 3G/4G modem as your internet, and Hotspot mode for public Wi-Fi.

**Q: What are the different ways I can power the TL-WR1502X?**
A: The TL-WR1502X travel router is powered by the USB-C port on the back of the device. You can power it using the included adapter or via a 9V/12V PD/QC-compatible power bank (sold separately) or laptop to create your own Wi-Fi network anywhere.

**Q: Why not just connect all my devices to public Wi-Fi?**
A: Connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi can risk your data and privacy. The TL-WR1502X router connects as one device to the public network, then creates a private Wi-Fi network, allowing you to securely connect multiple devices to the internet at once.

**Q: What is Captive Portal Authentication?**
A: Ever connected to public Wi-Fi and seen a screen asking for your email or to accept terms before accessing the internet? That's a Captive Portal. The TL-WR1502X features one-step Captive Portal Authentication to quickly get all your devices online.

**Q: Does the TL-WR1502X travel router have a built-in cellular connection or SIM card slot?**
A: The TL-WR1502X does not have a built-in cellular connection or SIM card slot. However, it maximizes your connectivity with multiple operating modes, easily connecting to wired connections and public hotspots for seamless internet access anywhere.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works.
*by D***C on April 28, 2026*

I needed a router for a project I am working on, and this suited perfectly. Setup was easy enough, connection is stable, it works with my project and is highly portable. One thing to beware of is that, even though it is powered by what looks like a USB C cable, it will not work on a standard USB. It needs its own wall plug that supplies a switching 5/9/12 volt power, instead of the standard 5 volts on a USB. I tried a standard USB, and the router turned on, then turned off because it didn't have enough power available from USB.
