Q: Instead of the straps could it be attached to a belt or a life jacket?

There is a slot for belt or strap. It is very narrow and I couldn't fit a belt through it. This knife is not suitable for salt water. I left mine on my boat for a couple of weeks and it went rusty.

Q: Is it legal in the UK?

Yes it can be attached to pfd. I have attached mine at shoulder using wire ties.
