Review: Great mortar and pestle - This mortar is beautiful, big enough too, just over 3 cup. It came with a felt pad for the bottom. Be ready ut is heavy. Like any mortar it needed smoothing, feel the mortar surface, try to smooth thstvout. Simply put in 1.5 cups of water and start grinding the surface with the pestle. This process smooths the mortar surface and the pestle. Mine needs a second time, then it will be ready once it is dry pour uncooked rice in grind it into a powder. Once done, toss out the powder wash it omit out let it dry
