Lightlark delivers a unique fantasy world with high stakes and a heroine whose struggles feel believable and human. Some reviews call Isla immature or too focused on her own powerlessness, but to me, that was part of what made her character compelling. She spent most of her life locked away, isolated from everyone else, of course she wouldn’t suddenly emerge fully confident or polished. It made sense that being surrounded by powerful, charismatic rulers would heighten her insecurities. I also appreciated the way the book balanced court intrigue, romance, and twists without feeling overwhelming. The pacing kept me turning pages, and the setting of the Centennial was creative and atmospheric. When I saw this Limited Deluxe Edition on Prime Deals I figured why not, let’s see what this is all about. This edition was beautiful! The details on the binding, the sprayed page edges, and the color photos make it a beautiful shelf spotlight! I am so glad that I decided to give it a read! Aster created these mythical realms and characters that immerse you right away.
