The 2 1/2 head and 1 1/4 diameter is about right and pretty standard for d cells. It is also quite heavy and makes for a sturdy club. Completely sealed against the weather. Should last a lifetime. Those other answers may be for the 3 cell. **Q: Why does Maglite so adamantly refuse to honor its warranty? The design of this flashlight encourages batteries to leak and wreck the flashlight.** A: Mag-Lite has a Trade-In program that you can trade in a damaged or older light for a new one at a discount. I had a 12+ year old incandescent Mag-Lite that I left in my shed for the past year and a half which the excessive heat in the shed during the summer (100+F) caused the batteries inside of it to not only leak, but ATE a football shaped hole right through the barrel. The light still worked, but I could not remove the tailcap. Fortunately I live where Mag-Lite is located, and drove down to trade in my 2 D-cell light for a brand new LED version for less than $25! Can't beat that, and I didn't even have to ship mine to them. While that's not like a warranty, it's far better than if they were to tell you to kick rocks.
