Thicker and tougher than a Kleenex, but also a bit rougher. They are a bit harsher on your nose, but the increased durability makes them good for wiping up a sticky mess or for grabbing up a donut. I think 3 would be enough to fully dry your hands if you needed to do that in "the field". However, the reason I am writing this review is to warn potential buyers about the packaging: these tissues come in a small paper box. When you open this box, it exposes the top edge of all 10 tissues. If your hands are already dirty, it will be difficult to take out just 1 tissue without contaminating the others. It is packed loosely enough that it is not difficult to pull out just 1 tissue at a time, so that's good. I've had some practice and I can open the box and remove a tissue with my one clean hand if needed.
