The switch has a positive on/off detent and a smooth rotary action through out. The one thing I don't like is the the switch housing can rotate inside the switch plate once installed if the friction nut becomes loose. Not a deal breaker but something to think about when installing. The jam nut needs to remain tight. So far very, very low level of flickering and only briefly while adjusting. I would buy again.
