The gap/slits are just big enough for a chunky three pin plug to fit through. Anything more complex might be a struggle, or you could simply pass the other end of the lead through if it detaches from the appliance.They are almost flush with the counter and unobtrusive, the colour is a nice black and is easy to clean.
