This was a little on the more expensive end when I purchased it (about 6 months ago) - I think I paid around $200, but it was worth every penny. The number of compliments people give me on the clock and they are always so surprised to see the gears moving. The gears are powered separately from the time. There are 2cbatteries compartments on the back - one is for the gears and the other is for the clock. I've had to replace the batteries for the gears once since getting the clock (and to be fair I don't think I used new batteries the first time.) This clock is the perfect blend of style, artwork, and we'll being a clock. Functionality is great - the only thing I could say was a "con" is that it is a bit big/heavy so you need to be careful when putting on or taking it off the wall.
