Review: This is such a great lamp! Highly recommended - I am aware that I have been suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder for many years. Some years seem to be worse than others. This last summer I spent more time outside in the early morning hours than normal and I really got a feel for how beneficial that early morning bright light can be to ones mood and overall health and well-being. As the summer wore on and the days began to shorten, I began to notice very quickly the effect of decreased light. It soon became fall and every morning when I awoke and went for my early morning run or walk it was dark and just barely becoming light by the time I came home. I started feeling really strongly like I would benefit from one of these lights, so I began researching them. I deliberated for two or three weeks, and by this time I was really starting to feel markedly more depressed than I had been all summer. My mood had really changed in that short period of time. So, I decided that I had better get one of these things quickly. I was almost sold on one of the Phillips blue light models, but then when I looked into the research that the blue light can damage the eyes and just decided that it was not worth the risk. So, I eliminated that...now how do I choose from all of these models? Well, I happened upon the Day-light Sky and was impressed my the specifications. I went to the company's website and did a little more checking around and ultimately decided to give it a try, even though it was more expensive than many of the other models. I figured that if I didn't like it, I could return it. Well, it is now about five months later and I can confidently give the Day-Light Sky a 5-star rating. It is effective! I could tell a difference the very first day of use. I started using it in early September. I set it up on my kitchen table every night before bed. It is too large for me to keep set up all of the time so I store it in a closet during the day. The cord is detachable from the unit, so I just keep that plugged in and hidden underneath the table, so it is super-easy to take out at night and plug in. I have to admit that initially I was suprised by how large it is. I did read many of the reviews and the dimensions, but I wasn't really visualizing correctly how large it would be. Ultimately, it didn't make any difference to me, but I had to devise a way to store it because I live in a small home. It is important to set the unit up at the propper distance and angle. When I first started using it, I measured the distance from my face to the light just to get a feel for how to set it up. Now it is easy since I have been doing it every day. The light itself is not harsh. It is very bright, but not headache inducing bright. I rented a light box several years back and it was so bright that I would get headaches from it. This unit has a nice cover that seems to diffuse the brightness a bit. I use the light on the high setting for about 15-30 minutes. Sometimes I forget and get caught up reading something and go over the recommended time. This does not really seem to make much of a difference since I am using it so early in the morning. Many times I will switch over to the low setting after I have had it on high for 15-20 minutes. It is a really nice task light and I can see how it would be really good for crafters (kind of like a verilux crafters light but much larger). So far the light works perfectly. I would imagine that I will have to replace the bulbs at some point. It is very stable and has a substantial base...it won't tip over. It has really made an amazing difference in my mood this winter and I would highly, highly recommend this particular model to anyone who is interested in invesing in a really good light. I can now face fall and winter confidently because of this light. It sounds silly, I know...but it is true :)
Review: Solid construction, very effective - I bought this type of light on the recommendation of my doctor to treat a sleep disorder. After reading a ton of reviews, I selected the Day-light Sky. I'm very happy with my choice! First, construction: It's solid. I keep it on my headboard and move it around quite a bit. It is assembled very well, does not feel rickety at all, and I do not have any worries that it will fall apart. The lamp angle adjusts easily and stays where you put it. I've moved it to other rooms a few times and other than taking reasonable care not to bump the lamp section, I really have no concerns about transporting it where I need it. Second, assembly: Simple to put together! Just follow the instructions. Tips: open the lamp and remove the two rubber bands holding the bulbs down and the two small black plastic tabs at the base of the bulbs. I did this after reading reviews that said there was a bad smell when operating the light, and I've had no smell at all. The black plastic tabs take a bit of work to pry out - be patient and careful. Third, operation: Simple toggle switch for low, high, or off -- couldn't be simpler. High is very bright, and what my doctor recommended. Sometimes I start on low and easy into it. ;-) Next up, effectiveness: Who knows for sure? This was part of my overall sleep therapy, so there are several things working in combination. I will say that after a few weeks of using it as my doctor recommended that it does seem easier to get up in the morning. I thought the horribly bright light would be hard to deal with, but surprisingly it is not. I was told I would get what I needed even with my eyes closed, which I sometimes do. Just stay within two feet of the lamps for effectiveness. I had some really early meetings one week, so I got up right before the meeting time and carried the lamp down to my desk in my home office. Snapped it on and dialed in -- light therapy at work! Other uses? If you sew or do needlepoint or cross-stitch, I would recommend this as a good lamp. The light is less harsh than LED lights, brighter than incandescent/CFL, and seems less hard on the eyes even with the additional brightness. The adjustable angle makes it convenient for working on projects of different sizes.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is the technology flicker free?**
A: Yes. I don't know about the whole therapy aspect, but this is the single best task light I've ever found. The light is both glare and flicker free, and easy on the eyes. One thing they don't make very clear is that it has a brighter therapy setting and a lower task light setting. It will only stay on the therapy setting for so long, then one of the two bulbs clicks off. There is still an amazing amount of light left as a task light, but it can be worrisome when your brand new light does something odd. :)

**Q: How long do light bulbs last when you use it 30 minutes a day? How quickly can you get the new light bulbs from the company? Available elsewhere?**
A: The bulbs are rated for 8,000 hours, but the intensity does degrade over the bulb life. Therefore, you should replace the bulbs every two years, based on your usage, to maintain the same lux rating. However, even though the lux level drops over time, you may also simply increase the treatment time to derive the same therapeutic benefit (e.g. 10,000 lux for 30 minutes, 9,000 lux for 35 minutes). The bulbs retail for arounf $10 each and the Sky uses 2, which may be ordered from Carex directly or from other dealers.

**Q: Can you adjust the height, independent of the angle? I mean, not the angle but just the height by itself?**
A: You CAN adjust the height and keep the angle the same. The light swivels forward and back which changes the angle. However, the arm that attaches the light to the base also swivels forward and back to some extent. You can lower the height about 8 inches and still keep the light at the angle shown in the picture.

**Q: Hello. In numerous photos, I have see the Sky used off to the side, pointing at the face at an angle (like the photos above). Is this OK?**
A: According to the book "Winter Blues" by Norman Rosenthal, one of the docs involved in the original discovery of seasonal affective disorder; the light can enter the eyes at an angle or from the sides. As long as the light waves are reaching the retina that's all that's necessary for it to work, and is even preferred in someone wearing glasses as light can enter the eye from the side without having to pass thru the glass lens which will filter a small part of it out. Also, wearing sunglasses filters even more light out and lessens effectiveness.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not sure of results YET (hopeful), sturdy and good-looking
*by G***H on November 30, 2017*

Excellent lamp. Easy to use. I gave 4 + because I don't know YET about the results. I am optimistic. Just a little assembly, easy. Too soon to assess the effect on mood. I am working on doing this consistently. It's hard to know if you are 12" away from the lamp. I use a ruler. It would be nice if they provided a tool of some kind. Otherwise, use the ruler and you would get used to that over time. I am not yet. A beautiful lamp for your desk, fairly large but a good size without taking up too much room. You need a good size desk though (or some other area), in my opinion. I was very hopeful to read the reviews. This sounds dumb, but I want to be sure the up-switch (filled in circle) is the light therapy. I think it is. Put in a call because I could not find on their website.. The task light is a great feature (it must be in the other direction, an open circle!) It is very bright also. May just be my eyes! I went through the whole "session" using the wrong switch!! I am sure most everyone would not have this problem
