I decided on these because the length should be suitable to open the door fully, and 67# should be plenty of support without being too much to be able to close the door. But the main reason why I chose these is because they actually come with the mounts. Since I'm not putting these on a truck topper liftgate, I didn't have any way of attaching a strut, but the mounting hardware on these are heavy duty steel suitable for attaching to the bulkhead frame on one end and the bulkhead door on the other. Can't wait for snow melt and warmer weather to get these installed.UPDATE: snow finally melted so I was able to get these struts installed on my cellar door. Installation was very easy. One strut wasn't quite enough to support the door so I ended up installing both struts and that was perfect. Allows the door to have a soft close and a much easier open without jerking my shoulder off to open the door. Once the door is fully opened the struts held it in a vertical position allowing me to have time to attach bungie cord to keep the door open in the event of wind so it doesn't close unexpectedly. We use a piece of wood to prop it but it has fallen a few times and the last time nearly broke my arm! We decided to add these to resolve the safety issue and ended up making everything easier and more convenient! The lid is now super easy to lift and it stays up like the hood of an old car. They are smooth and predictable. The pistons are metal along with the brackets. I have seen some with plastic components so I believe these should last a long time as long as they don’t bleed down.
