Review: A build-to-last digital microscope that would pass on to your descendants! - I sometimes work on very small soldering jobs where it is very difficult to see what you're doing, and I also wanted some way to present a macro picture/video footage of small things that I 3d print. That is where I looked and found this digital microscope, and glad that I did. Firsty, I have a 10.1-inch screen next to me so I know how such screen size looks like on my desk. However, I did not expect the stand to be THAT big - IT IS HUGE!! It's not a bad thing, of course. I just expected something smaller when placing this order. I put it all together but since it doesn't fit on my desk due to its size I already put it back in the box and forgot to take a picture of the entire thing assembled; I'd need to organize my desk a little to make it fit on it nicely and then update this review with more pictures. The overall build quality of this thing is very nice and sturdy and you get all the cables you'd need to fully operate it! I'll break it into sections below: The monitor: You get a wonderful 1024x600 resolution monitor with many features on it! First thing I noticed is that it has a built-in battery! This is something I didn't note about when ordering it; I thought I'd need to provide it power via cables, but no need to. And this is a very big plus as it makes this thing a very portable device, despite it's big footprint size. The charging is done via a USB type-c port on its side. It also has a manual dial for tuning the strength of the built-in light source within the microscope lens enclosure, a MicroSD memory card for capturing pictures and video footage (including audio!), a small HDMI-out port for projecting the picture to an external device, such as a TV or a video capturing device, physical buttons for menu/features navigation, and also a remote control! The microscope: You get an excellent quality microscope that is built-in below the monitor, so you don't need any wires to connect between the two. It has a nice big focusing ring that is very convenient to access to for tuning the focus, through 2 big holes from the front and back of the microscope enclosure. It also comes with an optional light blocking shield add-on that you can put on instead of the lens shield that it comes with by default. I was a little concerned about a very common issue that you usually see when using a traditional camera and an HDMI monitor, where you have a very small latency/delay between what is actually in-front of the lens and the output you see on the screen. I was amazed that in this unit it's like seeing everything through the lens of a traditional manual microscope - no delays whatsoever! I guess this is due to the brilliant design where the microscope and monitor comes in a one whole piece where no cables are involved. The stand: It has a very solid metal footprint base stand with nice big rubber feets, so it doesn't slide on your desk. The crane (see below) has a threaded socket to fit into, which can be tilted in an angle to your liking. Note that you probably won't be able to adjust it by hand when you unbox it, as its screw is very well tighten; just screw the crane on it first, and only then you'd have a nice grip to easily lift the crane to adjust its angle. The base comes with 2 flexible arm light projectors, which are connected to yet another(!) built-in battery at the bottom of the stand. Just like the monitor, it has a USB type-c charging port and a dial to set the light strength. So basically, you have 2 batteries that you'd have to charge on this unit, which are the monitor's and the stand's. Then you're good to go wires-free. The crane: It is made of a very solid and heavy metal! It has a socket for the microscope enclosure to fit into, and you have 2 built-in screws to secure it with, which have some kind of rubber ends that won't scratch or crack the microscope enclosure when tighten. The wheels at its back for raising and lowering the height of the microscope (and monitor) are big and very well made, and I see no shaking whatsoever on any height increment I set it to. Bottom line: This is one great built digital microscope for any need - you can use when soldering small parts, to take a thorn out of your finger, or to present macro pictures/video footage to your audience. It's not cheap, I'd give you that. But when you get it you'd understand why - you get something that would probably last more than your life and pass on to your descendants. I honestly highly recommend this unit and glad that I didn't go with anything cheaper.
Review: Quite pleased and surprised! - I didn't even realize before I bought it that it has rechargeable batteries for both the aux lights and the scope itself! That was a fantastic surprise. Build quality is great as is the image quality and magnification. The menu system is a bit slow to respond via the remote control but the options are clear and easy to understand. My nits have to do with the vertical adjustment rack. It isn't dampened so you have to be careful not to let the unit slide down the rack under its own weight but I think a piece of paper slid behind the locking screw will give it enough friction to prevent that. The other nit is that the tilt adjustment does need a wrench to adjust but that's probably not something you're going to be adjusting a lot so it's not really a big deal. For you Linux users... if you plug it into your computer, it is a standard UVC device and can be used just like any other camera. Oh, I was also surprised it came with a 32gb SD card.
