Updating is easy if you have a windows PC. 2) Use the windows config tool. May just be me, but the switch combinations and button push sequences for configuring without simply made my head spin. The config tool is far from perfect visually, but it works well to lay out your options in a direct manner. 3) Be careful when you plug it in! It's easy to move the config switches if you're working in a tight space. 4) That's it! Mine are both happily pushing 4k video only content to my TV while sending a fake 1080p blank video with any audio standard to the AVR. All my components are happy. My Apple TV4k is working magnificently through one, My Firetv HD stick is exactly as unreliable through another as it is on its own, but when it decides that it can do audio and that the audio should be in sync with the video, it works just as well as the Apple, within its constraints. The Fire tv problems are nothing to do with this being in the line, I should emphasise The only thing you will need to consider is whether this is the correct product for your application. It does the above. That's all it does. It doesn't switch, it doesn't do ARC of any flavour, it doesn't scale or enhance. It just sorts out a one way communication issue for one connection, and it does that magnificently. If you need any other features, you need something else. There are plenty of other options from the same manufacturer. Remember too that you will need a spare HDMI socket on BOTH your TV AND your AVR, so the TV is likely to become the constraint for devices. If this is an issue for you, you'll probably want to look at the Vertex model instead, or the Vertex2 which is looking very tasty with eARC capability on top of switching and a whole host of other features. Review: Works for me - if your amp doesn't yet support HDCP 2.2 - So I had a 4k amp, so I thought and got a new 4k projector but because my amp doesn't support HDCP 2.2 it didn't work with my desertcart Fire stick. As in it would not play in 4k, only HD. We're talking an expensive amp so didn't want to replace it yet. Initially I split the signal with HDMI to the projector and then a optical lead from the projector to the amp. This is okay, but does not support the higher audio schemes such as Dolby Digital Plus (what Netflix uses) which need HDMI for the audio signal. Just an HDMI splitter doesn't work either coz these cables authenticate the signal and your desertcart Fire will receive a signal from your amp saying it doesn't support HDCP 2.2. and will stop the signal going to your 4k display/projector. Anyway, this device DOES work in this scenario. So I have my desertcart Fire going to this box, then one HDMI carrying the audio going to the non-compliant amp, and the other HDMI going to my 4k projector. Phew! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cheaper than a new AVR *by B***E on 27 October 2018* This is a great little device. Whilst this may look expensive its far cheaper than buying a new AVR. I found my future proof amp wasn't so future proof when I invested in 4K HDR technology. I connect the HDMI output from my Vero 4K+ (a device I'd thoroughly recommend to people but not available from Amazon) to the HD Fury's input, then one HDMI out from the Fury to my amp and the other one to my TV and now get all sound formats sent correctly to my amp and full 4K HDR sent to my TV, something I couldn't achieve before buying this. I'd recommend investing in a couple of certified high speed HDMI cables to go with this little device, along with connecting it to a PC before using it to get the latest firmware updates as mine came with old firmware.
