Review: Very small footprint for a home gym - I got this for my home office. I really just wanted a weight bench, but my wife was interested in some sort of resistance machine. I really like that the bench folds up on this, as it stores up against the wall and doesn't take up much space. There's wheels on one side, so as you tilt it you can move it pretty easily, but it's sturdy and won't move when not tilted. There are also black rubber feet that can be adjusted for uneven floor. The resistance is created by springs in the cabinet portion, and there are 3 pins that change the total resistance. The distance you pull the handle/cable also changes the resistance (farther = more resistance). I'm not sure how other cable resistance machines work, but once I understood the function I felt comfortable with it. Max resistance is only 40lbs per each cable/pulley on one side, so I'm not terribly interested in using it, but my wife feels that it's enough for her and enjoys using it. I think it's intended more as a toning gym or possibly for therapy uses, which explains the low resistance weight. I may experiment and see if the rope attachment could connect to 2 cables at the same time, which would create up to 80lbs of resistance, I believe. Assembly wasn't too difficult. Seller communication was excellent. Fabric back does need to be left unfastened however, due to trouble inserting the pins which change the tension. Also, the pulley cables tend to twist. Unknown how, but access to the back is needed to periodically untwist the cables for smooth operation. They say if will load to 80 pounds. That amount of load will only be achieved at the greatest length of the stroke .... best as I can tell. So, you have concentric on the pull of the stroke and eccentric on the return to the starting point of the pull. The machine works well. About the only thing you can't do well with the "stock" set up is a bent knee extension & contraction bent. I drape one knee at a time over a short saw horse and use the ankle strap attached to the lower draw cable. **Q: Can you shift all 80 pounds resistance to one side. Or is the resistance shared 40 pounds on each side?** A: doesn't appear so ........... I use a padded pipe running thru the two lower cables hand attachments for doing squats. If I have both cables afixed any level of resistance is greater than if just one cable is attached. Having had the back off the unit to check spring functioning, I'm not sure why one couldn't put all 80# on cone cable ................. I wasn't thinking about the physics of that when I'd had it exposed???? **Q: Is there any way to increase the weight over 80 lbs? any upgrade?** A: Unfortunately at this time, there is no way to increase the weight.
