I bought a lead test kit from desertcart (with 60 swabs, about $14, will last a long time) and although I found out some of my other pans contained lead, this La Cuisine Dutch Oven is totally lead free. I tested the inside bottom, the outside, and the inside part of the lid - the swabs did not darken or change color one bit, indicating no lead. I also wanted to mention that I was fooled by the similarity of this product's name to the French made Le Creuset which costs $300 to $500, a lot more than I'm willing to pay even though I'm drawn to high class products. This Dutch oven was made in China but I have no complaints: the product is beautiful, as many reviewers point out. The lid fits perfectly tight, there are no scratches, chips, or defects and it just the right weight (I have a Breville smart oven air which it can fit in, and which limits the weight to 13 pounds empty - this Dutch oven is 12.2 pounds). I plan to make pot roast as my first dish to try this out and it seems to be the perfect size for my wife and I (close to the size of our crock pot).
