There are marks on the slider to show you where to stop to temporarily close the container and a spot showing you where to close permanently. Be careful to not completely close it until full, because it will not open back up. Fits easily in a pocket. Great for on the go and well designed. Well worth the money and can hold quite a few needle caps. Please not, they will not hold the caps over the needle. I will be buying more as needed.

I've also given some away to friends who were going on trips. The lock is solid, but it is easy to accidentally lock it, so I'm always a little bit paranoid I'll waste one accidentally. They feel solid and none have ever broken, and are labeled sufficiently for the trash when you finally lock them. Nowhere around me accepts sharps containers for disposal so the trash is all we have, so this is perfect. Way better than friends who have to use old detergent bottles with stickers and tape.
