## Description

Spoolies Hair Curlers - A Retro Favorite, redesigned with new patented technology and made in the USA. "Create Classic Curls with a Modern Twist." 4 Color Choices! Original 1950s size, called our medium size, has a companion larger size sold as "jumbo" on . Quality, Integrity, Purity - Spoolies, the curlers millions loved in the 50s are easy to use, and create a variety of hairstyles - such as Beach Waves, Spiral Ringlets, and Classic Pin Curls. Simply wrap the hair around the stem and snap the top over. Medical-grade Silicone is soft and flexible, and Spoolies are durable, lightweight, and portable, so you can take them anywhere . . . even in your carry-on. Spoolies Curlers are 1 3/8", and small by today's standards. They create the size of curl similar to a 3/4-inch to 1-inch curling iron – but No Heat is required. In a hurry? Spoolies are heat resistant and can be used with a hair dryer to activate the curls more quickly. NOTE: Spoolies medical grade silicone has grip, and the curler may get caught in the hair when removing, so wiggle it out with the curl to avoid tangling. We suggest trying one curler to practice how to apply and remove them. :) Spoolies, Inc. donates a portion of profits to charity in support of orphan girls' education projects in Kenya. ## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE - EVER!
*by T***I on July 10, 2017*

Your customer service is great! I've never had a company call me about my review of their product. It says a lot about your company's integrity. I received the "jumbo" sized Spoolies in the mail yesterday. I was anxious to try them in hopes that the larger size would make a positive difference! So here's what happened. I bathed and applied the curl product you sent on my wet hair. My hair is VERY thick and falls at the middle of my back. I pulled my damp hair back into a ponytail. I then took small sections and wrapped my ponytail using the "jumbo Spoolies". I went to sleep for the night. It is 7:00 am and my hair is still damp (my hair is thick). I remived the Spoolies. What a wonderful soft, curly ponytail! I gently blow dried it on low to remove the dampness. I am EXTREMELY PLEASED! The size of the Spoolies makes all the difference. I will admit that I really like these. Thank you for caring about my satisfaction. I'm really glad I tried the larger size. I couldn't be happier! I stand corrected! For long hair get the jumbo size. But don't pass these up! They were so easy to use and the curl.... WOW! I LOVE 'EM!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ but am happy to say they are amazing
*by K***M on April 13, 2017*

I had seen this product on a youtube video when searching for a way to create beach waves. My hair is shoulder length and very straight. I wasn't convinced they would work, but am happy to say they are amazing!!! I washed and dried my hair as usual then set them in the spoollies. I sprayed a little curling spray on each section before curling. There were more than enough to do my whole head. I left them on for about 20mins. while I did my makeup and dressed. I heated them slightly with the blow dryer prior to unwrapping them. The curls were great. Soft curly ringlets throughout my entire head of hair. I separated the curls with my fingers and applied hair spray. They lasted the entire day. The best part is I was able to get the look I wanted without using a curling/flat iron which obviously damages my hair. They are very easy to use and took no time at all to set my hair. I find they only work well on freshly washed and dried hair. I ordered a second set of the larger size to get a softer wave. I wanted something to take with me on a beach vacation and these are perfect. I tell everyone about them and plan on ordering a second set for my daughter. I highly recommend them!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Professional Stylist product comparison and trial (Intensive {LONG} Review & Pics)
*by N***I on May 19, 2017*

I'm a licensed cosmetologist and purchased both the jumbo and regular size Spoolies because I love hair gadgets. Initially, I was looking for something comfortable for a bride-client of mine to sleep in the night before the wedding to keep us on schedule the next day. Reading through many reviews, ranging from five to one stars, I had picked up a few tips from others and from the company to aid in application. Being a professional, I ran a trial on a mannequin head. At the time, I'd purchased more than one curling-tool like this, and compared both sizes of the Spoolies curlers to the other product, a variety-size pack of flexible curling rods.In this trial, I found that I preferred the flexible rollers over the Spoolies for the following reasons: putting the spoolies in the mannequin's hair took longer than the flexible rollers; the curls with Spoolies weren't as consistent and voluminous; the flexible rods stayed in place easier; the flexible rods didn't cause damage to the "100% human hair head" (even-so, they don't react the same as real hair on a living head) but the spoolies, in the mannequin, caused noticeable breakage to it's hair. DO NOTE - I tested on a human as well and didn't have the same breakage issue; more on that below. I mention here for anyone who is thinking of using these on a mannequin. Grab a willing child and bring a bag of m&m's instead. You'll be much happier with the results during this practice than with a doll.As I mentioned, I was really, really unsatisfied with my experience after the trial with the doll. It echoed some of the poorer reviews I remembered reading, and thought perhaps they were right - then proceeded to write a review to the same effect. Afterwards, I contacted the company about returning the product. (one item was beyond the return period) The representative who responded to my inquiry was wonderful and gave me some really great information about the product that changed my perspective, so I'll share that too.- - - "Our Spoolies were popular in the 50s and 60s and our owner, Jeanne James, grew up a Missouri girl with naturally straight hair in a family of curlies! She used to endure those smelly Toni perms until one day her mom bought her Spoolies. She would curl her hair in them at night and got the hang of it so easily that she could even curl them in the dark when her sister, with natural curls, would turn off the lights to go to bed (that is why she made a glow-in-the dark version - fun for the little girls)." - Jessica, Spoolies EmployeeHearing this story, I felt perhaps these weren't bad products after all; maybe they just weren't designed for all hair types. I have thick, medium to coarse hair texture (referring to the diameter of each individual hair strand) that's down to my bra strap in the back. I'd done a quick test with a few of these when they first came in on myself... but ran into a few problems. They were slipping to eye level (which is 1/2 way down my hair strand in my face. 1/2 way down the hair shaft is where the company suggests that you begin twisting hair onto the roller, then twist the roller up if you want curls to the scalp.) During this pre-trial, there were multiple factors that could have contributed to failure, and I didn't have the time to isolate which it was until my full-length trial with the mannequin. That being said, I don't believe these are a suitable to create all over texture in long or thick hair types effectively. If all you want is a soft wave in the lower 1/2 of your hair and you have especially long or thick hair, it's worth trying them out. In my opinion, these are best for hair no longer than the middle of the shoulder blade, with dual consideration made to the thickness and density of the hair. The customer service representative also suggested that Spoolies would react much differently in a real-hair trial versus the doll. Challenge accepted!! Being a mother of five, three girls and two boys, I had more than one willing participant. My eight year old was more than happy to get glamorous, and had a fun time with me while I put these in her hair. She also has medium-coarse, thick hair; but only to the top of her shoulder blades. The process wasn't painful for her, and in comparison to the mannequin trial, it was a bit faster and more secure. A technique that I found was helpful that I didn't read in other reviews is, after putting the desired amount of hair into the Spoolie and turning the top down, use your thumb and index finger to pinch the center cylinder. This locks the spool more firmly in place to prevent slipping during application. To summarize my experience with my daughter (and try to wrap this up.... hehe) - We put the spools to her scalp in the front half and used all 15 jumbo rollers and a few of the original size. For the back two neighboring quadrants, I put the hair in a low ponytail, and used the amount of hair pictured to wrap into the original size Spoolies. After we finished, I think it took less than 30 minutes to wrap all of the desired hair, (in comparison to over 35 minutes for only half of the mannequins mid-back length hair / also pictured) we wrapped her head with a scarf to keep the Spoolies secure. My daughter sleeps heavy and rough; by morning the scarf became a snuggly. At least 1/3 of the spools had slipped 2+ inches. The others were relatively unchanged. You can see the results in the photos. As a professional, I have an expectation that wasn't met by this product; but I believe on an individual level, these are fun to use, comfortable to sleep on, and add interesting texture to the hair with relative ease.Notable differences in application between my daughter and the mannequin: The mannequin was heat-set with mousse, whereas my daughter slept on hers overnight, air-drying without product. I ran out of spoolies on the mannequin without even finishing 1/2 the head, and in changing the application design on my daughter, had the loose spools pictured. I felt much more of my daughters hair would securely fit into the spool than the mannequins.Usage instructions from Jessica, the Spoolies Employee: If you start mid-strand and wrap the lower hair up in the curler, they should not slip. I never start at the top, but mid-strand after I wash and dry my hair and fluff up the top with my round brush and blow dryer, then I just curl the lower half for a nice beach wave in about 30 minutes on my shoulder length hair.A few final notes:-These spools are tacky for the first few uses. They're made from medical-grade silicone, right here in Southern California, USA!-There's a learning curve to their usage and it takes time and practice to perfect the look-They do not provide consistent results compared to hot tools like curved barrel flat irons or curling irons. However, they never claim to. (In the photographs I've shown a hot tool curl vs the spool)-Great for kidsPersonally, I still chose to return these since in my profession they won't be very practical and will be challenging to use in my home given the daughter pictured has the shortest hair of the females in our house. The company was great to work with during this process and is locally owned and operated in the USA. They've truly gone above and beyond to rectify my grievances. It's an organization that really cares about their customers and I've had a lovely experience with them. Even though these weren't for me, I know they're great for others. I hope my review helped you in some way to decide if these are a practical purchase for you.
