This whole unit is bigger, the frame is thinner. I'm used to wresting my hand on the frame when picking up my mug but you can't really do that with this one. 170 is very hot. I don't even need to use my mug cover and it keeps my coffee hot. With the cover on, it starts to get too hot. The desk does get hot, but after 1 hour at 170, I was able to move the unit and put my hand directly on the desk and leave it there, so I don't believe it's too hot to be an issue. On medium (150) with my mug cover, it keeps the coffee hot, similar to 170 without the cover. On low, with my cover, it keeps the coffee warm, not hot, but acceptably warm. Lowering the temperature while on does not reset the timer, but you can't go back hotter, since you can only go H.. M.. L.. Off.. H.. again. The slope of the frame is fine, I move mine a lot, slide it towards me and away as I'm using it. The sloped design makes it a little harder to grab and move compared to my old one; I used to have more ability to grab the frame; this is fine just takes some getting used to. I bought this because of the Auto Off feature. It does "count down" by hour, which is nice, but no further resolution than that. It does turn off after the set amount of time. I'm happy with it.
