It easily holds their size 4 soccer ball, cleats, shin guards, a change of clothes, and a water bottle without being hard to zip shut. I think these would work well up to 5th or 6th grade. I like that now THE KIDS are packing and carrying their own soccer gear since they have their own bag. Previously we stuffed everything into a big duffell bag that we (mom or dad) had to tote around. The outer pockets and zippers are smartly placed, sized, and designed. The kids can handle carrying them by themselves. There is a nice small pocket on the top outside for small items (keys, phone). Then I went to put all his stuff in the bag, and came to put the ball in. It has a very hard time zipping up a BALL SIZE 3. ( which is the smallest ball) You can leave the zipper unzipped since it has a draw string with net. But would of expected it to at least fit a BALL SIZE 4. Overall, I like the bag but really disappointed that I can barley zip the size 3 ball.
