Is that normal?** A: Yes. Air-dried mussels have low moisture, which gives them a firm, crunchy texture. If your pet prefers a softer chew, you can soak the mussels in warm water for 2–5 minutes or crumble them over food as a topper. **Q: My pet won’t eat them. What should I do?** A: Pets can have texture or taste preferences, just like people. Some love crunchy air-dried treats, others prefer softer textures. If your pet is new to mussels, try crumbling them over meals or softening with warm water to help them adjust gradually. **Q: Do the mussels smell strong?** A: Air-dried mussels have a naturally rich seafood aroma because they retain their oils and nutrients. This is normal and not a sign of spoilage. Store sealed in a cool, dry place to keep them fresh. **Q: Why are there small or crumbly pieces in the bag?** A: Mussels can vary in size and firmness depending on the harvest season. Light surface crumbling can occur during air-drying or transport, but does not affect quality or nutrition. **Q: Can pets be allergic or sensitive to mussels or seafood?** A: Seafood allergies are uncommon but possible, just like chicken or beef allergies. If your pet hasn’t had mussels before, feed a small amount first and monitor as you would with any new protein. ## Frequently Bought Together - ALFIE'S TREATOS Green Lipped Mussels for Dogs - Gently Air Dried Better Than Freeze Dried Dog Mussel Treats, A High Value Natural Alternative to Green Lipped Mussel Supplement Powder (2.65 Oz) - PLATO Pet Treats Fish Dog Treats - Air-Dried, Single Ingredient Dog Treat - with Omega 3 & 6 Fatty Acids to Support Skin and Coat - 100% Whole Fish - Wild Caught Baltic Herring Dog Treats - 3oz - Icelandic+ Whole Fish Herring - 3oz Bag - Dog Treats, Pure Wild-Caught & Air-Dried, Single Ingredient Snack, Pet Chew, Just The Fish Nothing Else --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.us/products/578174832-green-lipped-mussels-for-dogs-and-cats-hip-and-joint](https://www.desertcart.us/products/578174832-green-lipped-mussels-for-dogs-and-cats-hip-and-joint) --- *Product available on Desertcart United States of America* *Store origin: US* *Last updated: 2026-10-05*
