I got this kit as well as a normal fractions kit, and found that this one was much more engaging and interesting even though the basic math concepts are the same. The material is a plastic cover to a foam material, backed by a magnetic sheet. The colors are vivid and fun. I've had these for a few months, and they've lasted well. There are also a lot of different types of fractions that you can save for advanced students. Again, I'm not sure why, but these are more effective than the regular ones -- maybe because kids can also more easily imagine needing to split a pie or waffle than they can a regular circle.
