Work nice, feel nice in the hands, good size and they seem sturdy. They work for a beginner like me for sure. They do what they are supposed to do fairly well, and their pointed, tapered profile allows them to work in areas where some other rasps may not. If choosing between these and a Shinto rasp, I would choose the Shinto, but they're cheap enough to buy both kinds, and they each have strengths and weaknesses. The surfaces these leave will require extensive filing and sanding to smooth them, and they work much slower than the premium rasps. If your coped piece only needs to be "tuned" a little, then medium grit sandpaper or a round file might be better. **Q: does this cut hickory easily? I have a lot of wood to remove.** A: I wouldn't say it cuts at all so much as heavily files. If you have a LOT of wood to remove, I'd look into a spoke shave, draw knife, or rasp saw. That said, I own this set and they are wonderful for rough shaping maple (which is almost as hard as hickory). **Q: Are these made in China?** A: I have not used mine in a few months. I am sure they are marked China. The teeth were so sharp I had to get a new set of gloves because they shredded the finger tips of my cheap pair.
