One way valve seems to work. To test it I simply blew into the tube with it upright, then tilted it so the tip was down (mimicking the tank being flipped upside down in a rollover) and the valve did block the air I was blowing into it. If it can block air, I'm pretty sure it'd block gas. My lid itself has a built in one way valve also so I'm not really concerned anyway. It's cheap but seems worth it so far. I bought protapers handlebars and want to run the cushion pad eliminating the little hole in the dash you'd normally put the long stock tube in. So, we got this one. It looks cool. The fit is tight. I can’t imagine it would fall off when installed properly (pushed all the way on). In the Questions others describe this as a one-way valve. One even described it as having a ball valve that prevents gas from leaking out.
