**Q: what does it do/clean?**
A: It is a penetrant/cleaner used primarily in a kit to clean the surface of metal before applying a red dye and developer.  Use of the cleaner will remove oil/grease/dirt to help locate cracks by allowing the dye to properly penetrate the crack.  It does not leave a residue on the metal.

Love the ease of use. We use it to inspect the integrity of SST Tig welds in steam piping installations. This is only a surface inspection process in conjunction with a visual inspection but well worth the effort.
