Review: Much better than a Superdrive! - Having tried the spectacularly unreliable Apple Superdrive I wasn't going to waste my money on one of those again so I looked around for a better value version. At £21 this was worth a punt, but it has turned out to be a brilliant little drive. Sits unobtrusively on my desk while looking pretty (in blue) and when needed it does exactly what is meant to do. Didn't need any annoying software downloads for my 2016 MacBook Pro - just plug and immediate play. Playback quality is easily good enough for me. So far it has been entirely reliable with fairly regular use over the last month. As others have said the connector cable is short (460mm), but it's not a problem for me and I imagine you could buy a longer cable pretty cheaply if you needed one. All-in-all a top value drive that would be hard to beat. Review: Brief Instructions, Helpful Customer Service; Easy To Install - I wasn't looking for the cheapest CD player. The Emmaky has a metal case, works with Win 10 (I have Win 10 Pro 64 bit) and plays music CDs, DVDs and reads CD ROMs. Also I liked the colour as blue made a change from black or silver. I haven't tried its rewriting abilities. It comes with brief instructions which are clearly not written by a native speaker. Don't worry, it's easy enough to install. There are two USB leads in the box – I gather one is for extra power. Emmaky customer service responded quickly to my email inquiry about the power lead. To be safe I connected both. The instructions indicate that the power lead is necessary if the discs 'read and write not fluently.' The description on desertcart says 'powered by one USB cable' which is true but you need the data cable as well, so if you've only got one USB port on your device, this may not be the player for you. Fortunately Emmaky do make others - so take your pick. On my computer the player announced it's arrival as the DVD RW Drive. I had to install a media player to play music and films; restarted just to be sure; opened the media player and inserted a music CD. Unlike others I have tried it is sturdily made, and reassuringly well engineered. It is remarkably quiet in use, almost silent, and due to the quality of its build does not move around or vibrate at all, due to its being heavier that most rival plastic-bodied burners. There is no accompanying booklet, but the device simply operates once you plug it in anyway. It works best plugged directly into the computer. and extra power cable is provided in case it is needed in use.
