Review: Parts were good fit for LG WM2688HWM, quiet again. - This kit UPC X001KGU29X has been installed for about 2 weeks. As of now works great. The washer is quiet again just like new. Well work spending $600 - $1500 on a new washer. FYI- the kit is NOT made in USA. The one I received was made in China. The side plates that hold the grease in the bearings on one of the bearings seem to be made of a plastic (probably Delrin type material, not stainless like the OEM). That's probably fine since its just to keep the prepacked grease at the ball bearings. My mechanical disposition: I am not a mechanic, I like to DIY to save money, reduce waste, learn about how things work. I would rate changing the "bearings" on a Washer to be "Medium dificulity". What I define as Medium difficult DIY tasks are: changing toilet overflow fill valve, replacing sump pump, changing or reparing a faucet, changing oil or brake pads on a car, basic circuit diagnostics. Explain why I indicate good fit instead of exact fit. New bearing measurements were approximately .02 inch off compared to original bearings. From a tolerance perspective it probably is fine. As others have indicated, the DIY repair is very straight forward, there are plenty of YouTube videos. Take pictures of what you are taking apart so that you can see for reference when you put it back together. If it is your first time taking apart our drum assembly, count on 6 hr to be safe. Make sure you replace both seals and clean out where they sit. Don't try to save time by not doing it, if it leaks afterwards you will have to take it apart again. The hardest part of the job is getting the old bearings out. Take your time and back them out evenly. Use the old bearing later to push the new bearing back in (this will protect the new bearing, since you will be impacting the old bearing to set the new bearing in place). I will update this as time goes on on the durability and reliability. Long Term update 9/17/2022 The washer started making loud noise during the spin cycle again. So from a durability perspective only lasted 2 years. These bearings have a 5 year warranty. I will reach out to the manufacturer for replacement. I was very careful about the seal replacement. Will add details to the condition of the seal when i take it apart. Talked to the seller, they refunded my purchase cost of the kit. What failed: After taking apart the washer this is what I found. The failure was in the seal. The seal failed which resulted in water getting into the bearings. Eventually that caused the failure of the bearings. If the seal had not fail, I am sure the bearing would still be fine. I can see that the seal failure was attributed to the reinforced silicone O ring that supplies tension on the spider shaft. This tension keeps water from getting past the seal into the bearings.
Review: This worked perfectly. My LG WM2301HW is like new. - First and foremost, installing these bearings is not a quick or an easy task. It was hard work with unforeseen issues. In the end it was worth the effort because the washer is now operating like new. And now the review. I'm writing this review about two months after installation. This bearing/seal/o ring kit worked perfectly. I'm extremely happy with the purchase. But the install process wasn't easy. This is not the fault of the bearings. It was due to the age and condition of the washer. And the method I used to remove one of the bearings that was galled onto the drive shaft. And now some background on the repair. This may help you decide whether to attempt this repair yourself. My LG WM2301HW washer is 10+ years old. I've had to perform several repairs on it over the years including: - replacing the drain pump. - replacing the shock dampeners. - replacing the rotor (part of the direct drive motor). So I'm not afraid of taking the washer apart. It's a well designed machine that isn't difficult to repair if you have tools, mechanical knowledge and you watch a few youtube videos. This washer repair was the most complex one I've performed so far. Over the past few years the washer has started "walking" when on the spin cycle. I replaced the shock dampeners but that didn't completely solve the problem. Over the past six months the washer has started howling during the spin cycles. Anyone with familiarity with machines would recognize that sound as bad bearings. And the sound was getting worse. I had to either fix or replace the washer. I investigated having the washer repaired professionally but was told by two repair services that it wasn't worth the cost. So I decided to repair it myself. I went into this repair with the mind set that the washer was toast and it had to be replaced. $30 for the bearings was a risk I was willing to take. I watched a few youtube videos and got started. It should be noted that the videos weren't all the same. They did things in different orders and in different ways. For example one video removed the drain hose completely from the bottom of the drum and another just disconnected one side. To complete this repair the drum has to be removed from the washer. Disassembling the washer to free up the drum was straight forward and went well. No issues. Removing the drum was difficult. It's heavy and awkward to handle. I needed a helper to lift it out and put it back. With the drum out I could take it apart and remove the stainless steel basket. The basket is the thing that rotates with your clothes. This is where things got very difficult for me. The basket has a drive shaft on one end that goes through the seal and bearings then connects to the rotor of the motor. The shaft is supposed to slide out of the bearings and the bearings should stay in the drum. This didn't happen for me. For me, the large bearing was galled onto the drive shaft by corrosion caused by water that passed by the deteriorated seal. I tried everything to remove the bearing including Kroil, a blow torch, hammers and prying. It wouldn't move. In desperation I borrowed a seven ton gear puller from O'Rielly's auto parts. This is what finally got the old bearing off. I needed a long breaker bar to tighten the puller. I had to wear protective equipment because I was afraid something was going to shatter. With everything I tried, removing the bearing took a few days of after work activity. Once the bearing was off, I cleaned the drive shaft with emery cloth to remove corrosion and then cleaned the housings in the drum that receive the new bearings. I put the bearings into my freezer overnight before installing them into the drum. This shrinks the bearings and makes them easier to install. From there it should have been a simple matter to put everything back together. And it was until it was time to install the rotor into the drive shaft. This step is right near the end of the reassembly process. There's a spline where the shaft plugs into the rotor but now it didn't fit. What I discovered was that the massive force from the puller had mushroomed the spline to the point that it was too wide to fit into the rotor. This is when depression set in. And it's when I got out my files and started working on the rotor and the shaft. Working slowly I removed enough material from both sides that I was able to get a press fit of the shaft into the rotor by using the rotor attachment bolt to force them together. From there I was able to complete the install. Overall the repair took a week to complete working nights after work. Three of those five days were spent on bearing and spline issues. And all that time my family was complaining that they couldn't wash their laundry. When I pointed them to a nearby laundromat, they decided to wait for me to complete the work. Now that the work is complete I can honestly say that the washer is as good as new. It's quiet and as a plus, the washer doesn't "walk" around anymore. The worn bearings must have allowed the basket to vibrate enough to make the washer walk. Would I do this repair again, yes. But I'd wait unto my family was out of town ;). What would I do differently knowing what I do now? Instead of using the puller on the bearing, I'd have bought a cheap angle grinder at Harbor Freight and I'd have cut the bearing off. This would have prevented the spline from getting mushroomed. Now you know my story.

The bearings and gasket were a perfect fit and seems like a good quality. It wasn't an easy job, to get the old bearings out it took hours of beating it non-stop. It's been a few months so far and it runs great, I will update this review if anything changes. If you decide to tackle this job, it's not a bad idea to get the pressure washer out, the tub was covered in scum.
