I recommend not buying this battery

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2018*

Don't buy this battery because it's a reasonable price (read: cheap), comes with screwdrivers (of laughable quality), and comes with a warranty (if the seller ever responds to you).Don't be me. You will regret it.Let's get started with the review.Step 1: Opening your MacBook to install the battery:The pentalobe screwdriver that comes with this is made from the weakest metal known to mankind. If the screws in your MacBook are done up with a force that keeps them in place then trying to unscrew them will sheer off the points on this screwdriver leaving you with a lovely pointy stick. Not ideal for installing the battery. This left me at the first hurdle. To remedy this, I purchased a replacement pentalobe screwdriver from a friendly auction site for £3 and waited a couple of days. After the new screwdriver arrived I was able to easily remove the case of my MacBook. Success!Step 2: Removing the existing batteryPretty simple as Apple used normal headed screws (Torx, I think) that could be removed with tools people usually have on hand. Definitely not using the tools provided with this battery.Step 3: Putting the new battery inThis battery doesn't fit as snugly as the existing battery, but I could forgive it that as it's not an OEM piece. The biggest issue is that the terminal that connects the battery to the circuitry is in a slightly different place to the original battery. This means manoeuvring the wires in a space that doesn't really exist for them and overlapping them on the battery slightly. Again, not a massive deal on its own as it doesn't crush the battery cells and allows you to replace the back cover of the MacBook.Step 4: ReassemblyNothing to report here. The back cover went on fine.Step 5: Turning the MacBook onThe moment of truth. Press the power button with trepidation and wait a few moments before you hear the opening chime of "Live and let die" by Paul McCartney.Success! We have about 25% charged power.Step 6: Conditioning the batteryI researched several sites on how to treat a battery well after first installation. Many recommended allowing it to discharge fully, before recharging to 100%, discharging fully again, and then charging to 100%. After which it can be used normally.I did this.At least, I discharged the battery until the MacBook powered down. I then connected it to the charger, turned it back on and looked at the battery status."0% - Battery not charging"After disconnecting the charger several times, causing the MacBook to power off each time as it had no battery remaining, it finally started registering as charging. Not daring to touch it for fear of losing this precious capability I allowed it to charge to 100%. Then discharged it.The same thing happened when reconnecting the charger. Again, after several bouts of trying to recharge I managed to get it charging again before accidentally disconnecting the charger at about 40% charge as I gingerly moved the computer on the table.Quickly reconnecting the charger left me in the same predicament as before. It would not charge. I left it for an hour, came back, and saw the battery was still at 40%.Functional? Yes. But I need a portable machine to be, well, portable and not require to be indefinitely tethered to mains. At this point, my research was suggesting I should try resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) of the MacBook. This is what is recommended for new batteries as it is the bit of software that controls the battery. Handy!I reset the SMC.Nothing changed.Research also suggested resetting the PRAM as a last ditch attempt.I reset the PRAM.Nothing changed.Step 7: Contacting the supplierI emailed the seller of the battery explaining my issue and the steps I had taken, to hopefully be given some tips on how to resolve it.It has been two weeks since doing that and I have heard nothing.Since then, the battery sometimes decides to charge when connected to power, sometimes it decide not to. I have tried many means of enticing it to fulfil its duty, including :a) Trying on a different Magsafe chargerb) Rotating the Magsafe connector 180 degreesc) Connecting the charger, disconnecting it, reconnecting it, disconnecting it, swearing heavily, reconnecting itThere is no method I can fathom that guarantees this battery will charge on command.Step 8: Returning to the supplierAfter the two weeks of waiting, and suffering at the whimsical nature of the battery charging capability, I opted to return the battery.Unfortunately, Amazon only offer direct return rather than return to an Amazon pickup point and would refund up to £4.95 for the privilege. Ordinarily this would be fine but what I didn't realise (and in all honestly until you've been in this position I doubt many people would) is that hardly any postal carries let you send Lithium Ion batteries on their own in the post. Integrated into a laptop or mobile phone is fine, but on their own it a no-no. (As a side note, it's a fair policy for the carriers as batteries are prone to enjoying an explosion or two)I think there was one carrier who allowed posting Li-Ion batteries but wanted more than £10 for the pleasure.£10 - £4.95 = Not an acceptable number. At this point I'm unsure of whether the battery will improve it’s charging ability with time, whether to send the thing back and take the hit, or to escalate it further with Amazon. At the very least I have decided to warn others of my plight and to heartily recommend finding another battery than this one.Don't be me.Pros:- It fits. Ish- When charged it provides decent battery lifeCons:- Decides to charge, or not, depending on how its feeling; leading to frustration at something that should "just work"- Seller does not respond so don't expect the 12 month warranty to be honoured- Trying to return it when it does not work is a major hassle as most postal carriers don't accept Li-Ion batteries on their own (as this is)

    Good value for money!

*by A***D on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 July 2018*

Received the battery, and everything looked perfect. Just installed this morning, and it was simple with good tools and instructions.Upon firing up my MacBook, the battery was charged at 75%. I plugged in and charged to 100%. I've been working on my MacBook unplugged for the past couple of hours and seems to be working perfectly - Definitely holding a charge a lot better than my previous battery (which was draining quickly).I'll post an update if things change, but so far, so good!

*by M***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 April 2018*

Nothing but problems since it's installation. Mac randomly won't charge the battery and the poor fitting screw drivers stripped the 3 mac screws straight away. Avoid, not fully compatible.Update: Have now installed OEM battery from Replace Base. Mac running and charging as it should straight away and interestingly the track pad (Which was loose after installing the LIDUO battery) is now back to being as it was. Also, had to buy replacement back for MacBook Air (after the screws were stripped and needed drilling out). The replacement came with screwdrivers that actually fitted properly and didn't strip the screws. My advice: Buy OEM don't risk something like this.
