The product is actually flat and you fill it with the things you are transporting, so you should evenly pack it into a box shape or you will make it look uneven and odd. The tricky part is you can't load it and then place it on a high car as it would be too heavy and cumbersome to lift on to the car, which means you need to strap it in place and climb your car to pack it from the bottom entrance. Overall, it is not something you could really leave on your vehicle and should only be used when needed. It serves the purpose well for camping trips.
