Boy, I miss the US! If you order just a few days before Christmas, like I did, vendors in the USA will bend over backwards to have it delivered before Christmas. But for 3rd-world Europe, Amazon UK, even though I placed the order December 21, gave me no such choice. January 12 was the estimated delivery date, actual date several days later. Unbelievable! Anyway, I received the item and put it to use immediately. I am glad to report it works as advertised and expected. A few minor points: The “included” line splitter is not included. The phone cord is so short, the device, when connected to your phone can only be placed right next to it with no space between the two. The manual, is too small and the lettering illegible to anyone over 40. You need to somehow hold the manual open, while using a magnifying lens to read it. That’s surprising, since the product is obviously targeted toward senior citizens. The manual seems to have been written for telephony environments several decades ago, when there was no internet and no VOIP-compatible routers. It instructs the user to plug the devices’ cord to the wall, even though in my case, it had to be plugged into my router. The non-backlit LCD display, a technology relic from the early 90s, works OK but is not illuminated, so impossible to read at night. The indication BLOCK, which supposedly offers a count of blocked calls, does not seem to work. So, it reports no blocked calls, basically, even though I know for sure the device has been working all these months, blocking unwanted calls. It does show, however, the number of phone numbers in the block list. But all of the above can be considered minor annoyances. The main reason I purchased this device for, that is, to block unwanted calls, works with aplomb. I had already compiled a list of spam calls, starting last October. You see, my strategy has always been to refrain from picking up the phone when it rang from an unrecognizable number. I’d check the number on the web, and if it didn’t come up as a suspicious/spam call, I’d call it back. If it did show up as telemarketer, I’d simply place the number on my list. So, by the time the V5000 arrived, I already had compiled a long list of spam numbers. I took the time to enter each number into the V5000’s memory of blocked calls. The V5000 has a very important feature, allowing the user to block area codes or prefixes. I noticed, for example, that a lot of calls originated from the same company, where the first 6 numbers were always the same, and the last 4 were always different. Therefore, all I had to do was enter these first 6 numbers into the V5000’s block list to effectively block that entire company’s telephone center! The process is rather simple. To manually enter a phone number in your block list, pick up the phone, dial **7#, then the number you wish to block, followed by the # sign, and call. Instead of actually calling the number, the V5000 takes a couple of seconds, then produces an audible “success” sound for confirmation while the word “Successful” displays on its screen. That’s it. It is even easier, and immensely satisfactory I might add, to block a number while on the line talking to the caller. You simply press the big “BLOCK NOW” red button and the call bites the dust while the number goes to decorate the block list of the V5000. You can always unblock a number, but you have to go through the list of blocked numbers sequentially. The same way, sequentially, that is, you may peruse your list of blocked numbers. The V5000 has a memory of 1500 numbers, in addition to the pre-programmed blacklist it already contains. So, in conclusion, using the V5000, an annoying call from a given telephone number will bother you only once if you answer it and then press BLOCK NOW, or not at all if you screen calls using the internet and then enter the number manually in the block list. The device lists for £51.80 on Amazon UK. I paid a total of €75 including shipping to have it delivered to Greece. I’d give the V5000 4 out of 5 stars, because it works as expected, effectively, and only subtract one point for the minor annoyances listed in this review.
