### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better than the Milwaukee M18 7-inch fan in every way
*by P***D on August 9, 2023*

Another home run from Skil and maker Chervon. I was probably the first U.S. shopper to buy this fan. Normally I buy my tools used; it's better for the environment, the domestic economy, and my wallet. But ever since the PWRCORE 12 line was launched, I had been clamoring (in forums and YouTube comments) for Skil to bring us a 12V fan. Skil listened, and I want to reward them and spread the word about this fan to as many buyers as possible, as soon as possible.Another reason I bought it now was that it can use either Skil's 12V battery OR Skil's 20V battery. I don't own any PWRCORE 20 products, just PWRCORE 12 and 40. But unlike, say, the 12V battery or inflator, this would not be a tool that PWOCORE 20 owners would return because they had bought the wrong voltage.I've owned the Milwaukee M18 7-inch fan for about 6 years; I keep it strapped to my Greenworks 21-inch walk-behind mower, where it blows on my neck to keep me cool. As you can see in my first photo, the Skil is slightly wider, slightly larger overall. But in all other respects, the Skil beats the Milwaukee. Compared to the Milwaukee:- The Skil costs considerably less.- The Skil weighs more than a pound less empty; Plus, it can use a lighter (12V) battery.- The Skil blows slightly more air: 500 cubic feet per minute (CFM) vs. 450.- The Skil sounds more pleasant, with less turbulence; think Vornado.- The Skil is quieter at its highest setting--maybe 3 or 4 dB quieter.- The Skil has a brushless motor, so its motor works more efficiently and can be expected to last longer.- The Skil can use either of two nominal battery voltages: 12V (10.8V under load) or 20V (18V under load).- The Skil does not need a proprietary AC adapter to be powered from an AC outlet. Just a 110V-to-USB power supply and a USB-C to USB-C cable (or USB-A to USB-C if you'll settle for about 200 CFM).- The Skil can be powered by a USB power bank, with limitations (discussed later). So how long does it last on one 4-amp-hour PWRCORE 12 battery? I got 2.7 hours at full-blast, 6.2 hours when I set the dial to the final tic mark, the mark found at the 3 o'clock position, which is roughly 60 percent of full power. In other words, reducing full power by 40 percent more than doubles the endurance.A PWRCore 12 4.0AH battery stores about 43 watt-hours of usable energy. At full power then, the Skil 7-inch fan draws about 1.6 amps (43 WH divided by 2.7 hours). At 60 percent power, it draws about 0.7 amp. With 90 watt-hours (18V x 5), a 5AH PWRCore 20 battery holds 2.1 times as much energy as a 4AH PWRCore 12. But a larger battery needn't work as hard to provide the same power. I would expect the 5AH 20V battery to last between 2.2 and 2.4 times as long at a given setting.Speaking of settings: The dial clicks on at the the 9 o'clock position; it reaches full power at 7 o'clock, 10 twelfths around the dial. Oddly, the final white tic mark is at 3 o'clock, so keep turning for maximum coolth. Also, the dial's black-on-black indicator notch is hard to see. I suggest you mark it with a white marker (second photo).I tested the fan's USB-C power capabilities using two power banks (USB-C to USB-C) and one AC-powered USB adapter (USB-C out and USB-A out). To reach full speed through its USB-C, port, the Skil fan appears to rely on the the USB-C protocol called Power Delivery (PD). The protocol provides several profiles to "handshake" at different voltages. I attained full power (16 to 18 watts) from one power bank--a RAVPOWER 15,000mAH. I achieved only 10.5 watts (5V x 2.1 amps) from my other power bank--a Hydeson slim 12,000mAH--and when powered from any power supply, including AC, through a USB-A-to-USB-C cable. My guess: Your power supply will need to support profile 2 (12V@1.5A 10~18W) to provide full power. Profile 3 (12V@3A 36W) should also work, as should Profile 4 (12V/20A@3A 36W ). A 15-volt profile will not.Depite this small limitation, Skil has knocked it out of the park with the 7-inch Multivolt Fan. Like other Skil PWRCore products, it's far better than it has a right to be at its price point. Highly recommended.2024-07-17 UPDATE: I've bought two more: one for my daughter, a second for me. I took mine to an indoor concert, where it silently kept me cool while other concertgoers were fanning themselves. One suggestion to Skil: Add an LED indicator light to remind me that the fan is on. The fan is so quiet, I sometimes forget to turn it off. I'd pay $3 more for the LED.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty good/very versatile
*by P***S on September 27, 2024*

I think Skil has done the things that all the other battery platforms should be doing. This fan will work with both of their 12v/20v lineup and also with a USB C phone charger. And it works quite well with the charger. I'd say that if you intend on using it a bit with the 12v line, that you step up to the 4ah battery. It lasts significantly longer. I've had it last the entire time I'm sleeping on low and still have 2 bars left. But for some reason the 2ah battery doesn't last as long on the same setting.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice fan. Very good air circulation.
*by J***O on October 26, 2024*

I've only used it for a couple of hours and it barely put a dent in my battery charge. Blows very strongly at max setting and worked wonderful at keeping me cool while I was working in my garage on a warm day this summer. I intend to take it camping with me next year as I think it will make a great fan next to my cot to keep me cool in the summer
