You may be able to observe the thing. But it may be too dark. **Q: Can these be used for a monocular microscope?** A: Haven’t used it myself, as it was bought a gift for my six year old grandson, who has a monocular microscope. **Q: Do you need a real microscope for this or can a usb microscope and digital microscopes be used as well? thanks** A: We use on a microscope 600-1200 magnification so if usb is around the range I don’t see why not. Set comprises 48 samples of four sample groups: plants, flowers, insects and animals. Everything on a safe to use clear plastic slides. Ideal for kids use without extra supervision of an adult. In general quality is decent. I have found 4 slides which are poorly made (contains residual trace of material, not substantial enough for observation). Bigger issue is resin/bonding agent used for slides. Due to the sample being compromised by resin some of the slides are difficult to observe under the microscope. Plastic used for sliders is not scratch resistant so handle with care. All in all this biological sample specimen set is a good entry level science kit for kids. I’m convinced that is a good science introduction to something bigger or broadening the scope of child interests and hobbies, Purchased on request of my 8yr old son. Now during the lockdown is one of his favoured activities.
