Review: Useful for any senior medical student wanting to gain a wider & deeper understanding of Neurology & Psychiatry - Harrison's Neurology is a useful addition to any senior medical students library of resources that they have used for their studies. This title is yet another in the widely popular in the US Harrison's series of titles. This most recent edition has been updated to include the most recent developments in the fields of neurology & psychiatry to make this book a high quality read to any student or doctor that chooses to access this title. It is a US title & this should be pointed out from the beginning so some of the practice guidelines that are recommended may not be the same as what is practised in the UK, this given, the title is clear and well laid out making it easy to follow. The title is in colour with high quality diagrams included in useful positions throughout the text & the use of text boxes to highlight pertinent or more in-depth detail means that the student can skip over things such as the pharmacology of drugs should they not wish to read this whilst revising. The title is well structured with the first part which is potentially the most useful to the student along with the Psychiatry section 5. The 1st section contains information on the neurological examination, history taking & techniques such as Lumbar Puncture all of which the student needs to be aware of. The second section goes through the presenting complaints in neurology such as headaches, dizziness, back pain, vertigo & gait disorders to name but a few. The most useful adjunct to this title that makes it stand out from many other neurology titles in my opinion however is the addition of an online video library that is accessible when a copy of the title is purchased. This library includes videos on taking the neurological history, examination of the cranial nerves, the motor system, the sensory system & mental status in it's 1st half. These however are not just demonstrations of undertaking these clinical skills but include useful explanations of why you are undertaking each component & what to do if you have an uncooperative patient, something that other resources such as the Bates' guide to Physical Examination & History taking, Bates' Visual Guide & MacLeod's Clinical Examination titles do not include to such an extent of nearly 1 hour on Cranial Nerves! The remainder of the videos cover important topics such as Gait Disturbances which are not entirely relevant to the medical student but certainly to the trained doctor! In summary I would encourage you if you wish for a textbook on Neurology to strongly consider getting a copy of this title either from your library or purchase one. Review: Five Stars - Excellent introduction to the "science" underlying neurological syndromes.

I love the way the book is organized. I recommend it to complete reading it in PGY2 year Neurology. One of the best simple reads
