The reasons why are as follows: the strap is very short which means it will fit on an adult male's wrist but not over clothing. So if you're hoping to use in strapped to your bicep whilst riding then you're going to have work out a way of keeping it there. Secondly, the volume is pretty low. Needs to be on full at all times. It's just about audible when stationary in town but forget it when you're on the move. As most mobile phones have decent speakers then they can easily compete with this. I think for what the suppliers ask it really needs to be about half the price.
