My best friend's dad was a veterinarian and he put it on all our sprains, scrapes, etc. And, that was back when it was not refined so highly and made you smell horrible. But, it's strong and will irritate tender skin, but if you have a joint hurting under tender skin, get over it! The addition of aloe helps a lot and the itch goes away in a few minutes. Yes, some skin will get a little flaky, but the massive pain relief is well worth that minor downside. You might get some plain aloe and apply that over the area when this dries in about 10 minutes, but the flaking doesn't bother me, so I haven't tried that yet...
