## Description

Undoubtedly the best-loved double act that Britain has ever produced, Morecambe and Wise first came to fame in the mid 1960s with their hit comedy series for ATV. Showcasing their mildly anarchic humour, impeccable sense of timing and keen eye for the absurd, the success of Two of a Kind propelled Morecambe and Wise towards the BBC and television superstardom in no uncertain terms. Each show features fast-moving skits and musical parodies, with Eric and Ernie giving us their inimitable versions of television favourites Supercar, Face to Face and Candid Camera in addition to memorable interpretations of Shakespeare, Eric's ongoing battle to get his lines right and undoubtedly the most ambitious attempt ever seen to recreate the 'fight sequence' from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! This eight disc set contains all 48 editions of Two of a Kind (aka The Morecambe and Wise Show) alongside a wealth of special features including an exceptionally rare early performance from 1957, several appearances on Val Parnell's Saturday Spectacular and the two surviving editions of Piccadilly Palace.

Review: Hilarious - and lays to rest a myth. - There is a myth, nurtured through several of those documentary-cum-clip shows centred of Eric and Ernie, which holds that the boys needed Eddie Braben to come along and write for them in order to become masters of their craft. This set of shows, made between 1961 and 1968, lays that myth to rest. The writing, by Dick Hills and Sid Green is consistent and inventive, and there are several prototypes of sketches that were reworked in the BBC years, including the legendary piano sketch. The classic relationship between Eric and Ernie, where there is no real straight man and both feed the comedy, is also there, if in subtly different forms. For instance, Eric is more of a Jack The Lad character (mild sexism alert for the hyper-sensitive) and pre-"Plays what I wrote" Ernie shows his self delusion in youthful big-headedness. They were, of course, young men, not the domesticated dressing gown wearers of their latter years, and played themselves as such. Image quality on the DVDs is good, and the absence of celebrity cameos is offset more than adequately by appearances of music and variety acts from the period - often a delight in themselves, and showing how quickly show business and fashion changed during the '60s. In the end, if you love Eric and Ernie I think you'll love this.
Review: Highly recommended and a bargain at the price - You can see the genius of Morcambe and Wise beginning to show through here. These programmes have been neglected for too many years and are a treat to watch. There is a bonus disc of archive performances as a nostalgic gift. Highly recommended and a bargain at the price. Arthur

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hilarious - and lays to rest a myth.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Set
*by J***R on 5 January 2019*

This product is absolutely brilliant it’s just a shame that the indexing of the episodes is not terribly clear as series one is completely missing from the archives so that’s the DVDs label slightly confusingky therefore easier to follow the episodes from Wikipedia entry All good it’s just a shame network haven’t tidied up some of the footage just need a little bit of recovery but generally speaking very very watchable In regard to this we are spoilt with the Doctor Who releases that always have the film elements and audio massively tided up from the Doctor Who restoration team The extra a TV variety footage on the last disk is absolutely fantastic and just makes you wonder why we’ve not got variety on television now even though it’s obviously dated in terms of some of the stage settings the quality of it is absolutely stupendous and so fast moving - great - buy it 😀
