A 5 lb tank holds a little over 1 gal of propane. Your standard BBQ tank is a 20 lb tank holding 5 gal of propane. The connection should work fine with any hose that will connect to a BBQ, camp stove etc. I have used them for years for both. **Q: Can this be stored on its side?** A: Regarding forklifts. Motor fuel tanks use a dip tube that allows the *liquid* propane to run to the motor where it is used to power the vehicle. BBQ and other propane tanks have a valve at the top that allows propane *gas* to go out the tube for combustion at the BBQ or whatever. The tank has liquid at its lowest points and gas is all at the highest points. There must be gas (not liquid) present at the level of the valve. Using a standard propane tank for a standard use like a BBQ, gas fire pit, gas stove, etc requires the tank to be stored upright so the gas goes out the tube to the appliance. These cylinders also have a pressure relief valve on the top. If the tank is overheated and is at risk of rupturing the valve will open to release some gas. This safety feature can be compromised if the tank is not stored upright. **Q: What is the diameter of the ring on the bottom of the tank? Trying to replace current tanks, which have a ring diameter of ~ 6 1/2".** A: The diameter of the bottom ring is exactly 6 1/2". **Q: Why is cheaper 5lbs tank with gauge is better quality without gauge? Thank you** A: I will go out on a limb and without research, I will throw in my 2cents. First the IMHO the gauge does not improve tank quality. Only saleability. Gauges read pressure and not actual liquid content and will differ depending on temperature. Quality. All tanks are all built to a DOT standard which probably specs the steel type and thickness, welding, testing and internal parts as per the DOT CODE stamped into the collar. Tanks can cost less depending where the steel is sourced, labor, parts and paint but, it has to meet the DOT specifications. I use it twice a day and I can get about 4 day maybe 5 days , depending on the usage ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect for the Weber Q2200 *by L***Y on July 27, 2023* After 6 green 1lb bottles it was time to make an economical, reusable change. This 5lb model is a perfect fit for the Weber Q2200. It fits comfortably under the grill stand. The 5lb weight is easy haul around and refill. The refill cost of $5.28 is cheaper than a single green bottle. It should last as long as 5 green canisters. If that turns out to be true then it will pay for itself after the 2nd refill. It is such a good deal and size that I’m strongly considering it for our short term rental in Myrtle Beach that has a Weber Q1200. Makes sense for our renters, and ourselves as well, while not posing a big risk to our unit. Note that my objective was an economical alternative for an almost exclusively condo usage.
