Trying to remove old dark stained varnish from a period bay window casement enclosure this product required various attempts at timing betwen application and removal . It obviously depends on how many layers of old paint or varnish are involved . Finally achieved the removal of the old varnish but left the lovely pitch pine a bit discoloured and wet looking and it still looks that way after several days . Alternatively we tried the elbow grease method with a quality Bahco scraper . The scraper proved to be the winner hands down , as the resultant varnish removal left the wood looking fresh and untarnished as if it had just been built .
