The common plastic catches allow the drawers to open slightly which allow his fingers to get trapped and ours to just about get in to operate them. This product is very secure and comes with a jig to ensure proper alignment. The drawer or cupboard remains locked tight until operated with the magnet. Only thing is that you need remember to pick up the magnet to open a drawer. You can de-activate the locks though when little explorers aren’t around. A great idea for the magnet to have a wall mount so you always put it back in the same place (else you can’t find it and get into your cupboards!). We no longer include screws in the box as the adhesive on the locks is very strong and makes them not necessary for installation. If you did chose to use screws yourself they should not be attached to the lock component as it's not designed to be screwed in, only the small catch-plate which goes on the side of the frame. We melted two keys by not noticing they such to the back of a tray while cooking (two different times).
