    Great switch

Works well and does exactly what I needed it for. Being powered by POE works great when you need to put a switch somewhere where this not a power outlet.

Product has a LOT of cost cutting compared to older model

*by M***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2014*

This model of the 1810 8 port version, the version 2 model, has been drastically reduced in case quality. I have been in IT for almost two decades, much of it with HP switching technology. I have ALWAYS relied on HP to deliver a quality product in a well built case. This model, while working properly, is very cheaply built. We use many 8 port switches in conference rooms and other areas where we need a few more ports than are wired to the room. The previous model was built with a metal case, proper logos, and exuded all of that HP quality that I have come to expect from HP. This new models case is so cheap it feels like a $5 item from the China bin. The HP name has been eliminated from case with the exception of one sticker on the front panel and the information sticker on the bottom of the unit. The push button to cycle through speed, duplex and activity of the front LEDs for each port has been eliminated. I actually used this feature quite a bit to determine sync problems with laptops of visiting executives. Shame on HP for eliminating it and shame on me not noticing it before buying several of this model.Make no mistake friends, this is no longer even a small business quality item. It is now firmly in the consumer/home, throw away market. It deserves no place in a corporate environment, if it will be seen by anyone. It will tell everyone who looks at it that it is a cheap product. I have always paid a little more for HP items because of their quality build. It is sad to see such cost cutting in what was once an assumed quality when you bough "HP".

Easy to install, works with SONOS

*by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2015*

I would rather buy HP equipment at this price than the "consume" brands. I have been buying HP equipment professionally for years and it is very reliable and a good value. In this case, I bought the HP 1810-8G for my home network. I also have a HP1810-24G (24 port) switch so I am using this remotely to tie in a computer, printer, and some other devices in an area where I only had one incoming wire. The 1810-8G installs easily and works out of the box. Because it is managed, you can also apply other criteria to the network flows but this may not be your interest. My specific interest is that it works with the Spanning Tree Protocol STP that is required by Sonos for whole house audio. I have used other consumer grade switches and many of them do not implement the protocol.
