I didn't want real glass because I am hanging this in the bathroom and the thought of broken glass on a bathroom floor makes me shudder. The frame was well packaged and flawless coming out of the box. It came with two white mattes which I didn't need but I can use them elsewhere someday. The frame itself is put together well and has a nice backing. The wood is painted flat white. (And could easily be painted if desired.) It features both horizontal and vertical hooks as well as a tabletop stand. I liked that the plexiglass had a protective coating on both sides so when I peeled it off, the "glass" was totally pristine - no scratches or lint stuck to it.
