A: I painted mine black with fire proof paints and its okay

**Q: Can this be used in an open coal firw on the walls?**
A: No, you need to use either fire bricks or fire cement.  This fireboard is really designed for use with multi fuel stoves such as wood burners and protect from radiated heat. In particular where the stove pipe goes into the flue liner, providing a seal between the hearth and the flue. It i also used as a surface to count tiles on in humid conditions such as in a bathroom.

A: Yes, you can screw these boards to stud wall as part of a fireplace
