Review: So far so good. People who complained about odor probably didn't read the instructions, which very clearly say to put it outside and turn it on high for a little while when you first get it to burn off a coating (presumably oil on the cast iron). I got this because NONE of the alleged plastic-free electric kettles really are, so I decided to go the old fashion way with a separate hot plate and kettle. I like that this has simple mechanical controls without electronics, computers, LEDs, touchpads, or other gimmicky razzle-dazzle, all of which always gives out pretty quick. Being a utilitarian sort I don't usually comment on appearance, but I have to admit, this looks elegant. I still haven't found a good kettle to put on it because, just like with the electric ones, even some of the plain glass kettles have plastic parts despite claiming the contrary, but that's not the fault of the hot plate. It works great. I'll find a decent glass kettle eventually and meanwhile this is mutipurpose. If it doesn't last, I'll revisit this and let you know. That's the thing that makes desertcart's reviews more credible than, for example, Ebay's, IMO, that you can revise them. Fri 7 Nov 2025
Review: Very good burner. Will use at camp. Do NOT get this for canning. I have a Presto 23 qt pressure canner. I was testing it with water to run thru the process. It took an hour and 20 minutes at max just to begin to see sporadic venting. At that point we turned everything off and bought the expensive one recommended for canning. This is however, I very nice hot plate for regular cooking, especially sauteing. It is built well, easy controls, affordable and it is a nice height off the counter and underneath stayed cool.

**Q: Can you use enameled cast iron cookware on this cooktop**
A: Yes, the only difference between this & other electric cooktops is that the elements are solid cast iron. I love mine no drip trays needed with one solid piece. Easy clean up, too.

**Q: Can you use this with a 4 quart dutch oven?**
A: i suppose it matters how large the bottom is! Hot plate surface is 7 3/4 wide! Guess you could hangover! Works great though for what I use it for in my motorhome!

**Q: Can anyone tell me what pot can I use for this electric stove? Can an aluminum pot be used?**
A: Use this hot plate as you would any electric stove - best to size the pot base with the plate.  Works very well!

**Q: is it 1800W for each burner seperately? or 900W for the one?**
A: This is a single burner but if it were a two burner, the 1800W would be for both together.  The burners may split evenly but usually one is a larger watt burner and the other a smaller watt.  Usually if they split evenly then both burners will be the same size.

So far so good. People who complained about odor probably didn't read the instructions, which very clearly say to put it outside and turn it on high for a little while when you first get it to burn off a coating (presumably oil on the cast iron). Second time I purchased this hot plate. First one lasted almost four years with frequent use and moving around, cord broke where it enters the body likely from moving and wrapping the cord. I always try to fix before tossing things so after opening I found where the cord broke it enters a sealed plastic connector so it’s un repairable. Also found most of the push on electrical connectors dried a brittle and fell apart when checking. Decided it is time so four years isn’t bad for the price. Tossed it and ordered a new one. Minus one star for the cheap electrical connectors.
