Review: Recovered old family photos from old hard drives my father had! - I picked up this docking station after helping my father set up his new all-in-one PC and I found a bunch of older computers and hard drives laying around his house. I brought all of the drives home with me so that I can go through all of them and make sure I save all of the pictures he’s taken over the years! This docking station was perfect since it can handle both 3.5” and 2.5” drives. It was pretty much plug and play when I first connected it to my computer. I have no issues with the processing speed, knowing some of the older drives aren’t going to be as powerful as newer SSD drives. It’s been very reliable and I haven’t had any issues accessing all of the drives I’ve attached so far. This became really handy when my Father-inLaw’s PC recently died (and he didn’t have a backup of his files). I pulled his Hard Drive out of his old tower and plugged it into the docking station, then downloaded all of his files on a 32gb thumb drive (older generation and not a lot of files!!) and took it back down to his house on our next visit. He was really happy to get all of his files back and I got to keep his 2 TB drive as a spare so I can use as my external backup drive to do monthly backups (I’m also using the Apple Devices app to download back up files from all of our devices to this drive since it has plenty of disk space). For my needs this has been the perfect solution for going through older drives to save information we didn’t want to loose - all of the pictures I’ve saved off of my dad’s old drives was well work the price of the docking station since there were hundreds of pictures from both sets of my grandparents that my father had scanned on these drives. I’m now exporting all of these pictures to thumb drives so that my sisters and cousins are getting copies of them. Some pictures my cousins have never seen and they whole family is so happy they have been saved.
Review: Recommended. Pretty impressive little tool. - VERY Impressed..... This cloned my 1T Linux Mint fully encrypted HDD to a 2T fully encrypted Linux Mint SSD drive offline :D It showed visual status of cloning progress too. It's important that you don't disconnect in the middle of cloning because that will very likely cause a mess! No matter what OS you are cloning, I would recommend this SABRENT USB 3.0 to SATA I/II/III Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5" disks (I didn't try it on 3.5" but it looks like it would fit). For me, the functionality was spot on. It's plastic, so lightweight, but did it's job. It's a device that is meant to sit on a flat surface and not something that moves around so sturdiness was not a concern. The disks plugged in correctly, and connected well. Background: I wasted SO much time trying to do this clone with cloning software! By doing this offline with this little machine I didn't have to deal with all the conflicts & issues or dealing with cloning software that made a mess of everything. Windows OS wants to control everything, so it's better to take any Windows OS drive out, clone the Linux drive, install the newly cloned Linux drive and then add back the Windows OS if you want them to live in the same computer. Be patient - My Linux Mint OS install HDD was less than a month old so the disk was not at all full (I was testing out the OS on my older HDD first to see if I liked the version first). The entire cloning process took a little over 13 hours to clone the 1T HD to a larger 2T SSD, but like I said, everything was encrypted and the SSD was wiped a few times prior to this trying the annoying cloning software that didn't work. I have worked on UNIX/Linux operating systems all my career - however I would never have thought to switch to Linux OS on my laptop if it weren't for Microsoft ending support of Windows10. I can't stand Windows 11 with everything in my face and no privacy. I'm now looking forward to using this on other OS disks (Windows and Linux) and as a docking station. It's definitely worth the price :)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can i access two hard drives at once with this device or does it switch from one to the other?**
A: Yes, you'll be able to access both drives at the same time.
You can also use Offline Cloning from 1 drive to another.

**Q: Supports hard drives up to 10TB really?, I can't find any specification on the web site**
A: Our EC-HD2B will work well with 20TB drives. It has recently been tested and validated to work with native 4K sector drives including ones that are up to 20TB in capacity per bay

**Q: would this station allow one drive to handle time machine backups and the other drive separately handle playback of audio files?**
A: Yes. Both drives appear as two separate volumes accessible independently.

**Q: Can this be used to format a drive or is it just a cloning device?**
A: Think of this device as an external hard drive. The difference is you get to plug in internal drives to it and work with them however you desire. If you buy a new, unformatted, unpartitioned HDD (which is standard), you will go to DiskManagement in Windows and initialize the drive for use. I like this device especially for backing up and cloning drives. Acronis True Image 2021 is my current tool of choice for these options.
